SAT Subject Tests

So I'm a sophomore right now in high school. I just found out that the SAT Subject Tests actually exist in this universe an hour or so ago.

I'm assuming that we 10th graders can also apply for the next test date (Jan 28) for the subject tests.

I'm considering applying for three of these:
- World History
- Literature
- Biology E(Enviornmental)
- Biology M(Molecular)
- Spanish

Has anyone taken ANY of these? Can you tell me how it was and what you recommend I do to prepare?

Thing is, for World History I am currently in the World History class. But I've gone through the world history book and we've already covered pretty much what I didn't know from earlier world history. Now we're up at the Industrial Revolution and it's all pretty much "Oh...this again?"

And for Spanish, this is my second year of Spanish and yet I've learned nothing new this entire year. I think I'll be able to stand my ground in this test because I've grown up with spanish-speakers all around me (My mother, her family, and the lovely T.V.) and I am able to comprehend a lot already.

Am I in over my head? I'll be looking to see if I am eligable for a waiver on the test fees so that I can take as much tests as I can and see how I do on them. In the event that I don't like my scores, can I do the test over and replace my score?

I'm a senior in high school. The subject tests are required for some schools (the ones I'm applying to at any rate). I've taken US History, scored pretty well, considering that I took it the year after I took the AP course; and also Physics and Math II. The tests are an hour long each, all multiple choice. Keep in mind that they're curved, so you can leave some questions blank or get a few wrong and still get close to perfect.

OOOOOOooOoooo......Curved eh? That sounds good...My STAR tests show that I've been doing much better than over 90-99% of sample students all over the country...

STAR tests? What are those? Have you taken a PSAT yet?

Yeah I took the PSAT like last month. They said we won't get our scores back until December.

I'm sure you'll score very high. PSATs are easy as shit. The SAT is far more difficult (I almost didn't have enough time to answer everything).

Oh yes, does your school distribute practice essays? Mine did, it does help you get used to the kinds of questions they ask on the SAT Writing test (very broad, vague, etc.).

Good to hear about my PSAT score, not so great about the SAT.

Well, no.

Well, no.

Be prepared for something like 'Do you believe that the competitive nature of humans is an important factor in their success?' or 'Is discontent a significant motivation for action?'

The thing I have the most trouble with is using examples ... I can write good essays but I'm not too good with details.

Well...sounds like you can apply that to a wide range from social lives to economics.

I heard somewhere to grab your examples from mainly books and history for the best impact.

Yeah, I try. Sounds like you're pretty well prepared. Any college plans yet?

Get to the best I can get. Start getting my foot in some doors. At this point, that's the plan.

My classes since the 7th grade aim to prepare you for college. I take all the honors classes I can take.
This year it's:
Language Arts 2 Honors
Chemistry Honors
World History Honors
Pre-Calculus Honors
Spanish 2
Sports

Next year I'll be taking those wonderful A.P. classes.

Not bad ... I didn't take Pre-Calculus until junior year. Rest assured, things get harder.

Colodia, any ideas for college yet?

If you want to get away from the sun and surf, and get into the snow and cold, come up to MSU. Party Central!

In fact, when playboy did their "Best Party Schools", they didn't include Michigan State because "it would be unfair to put professionals in an amateur ranking". :D

Lol ... I hear that Santa Cruz has one of the best party schools in the country (apparently it's impossible to fail a class there).

Blah, false!

In Santa Cruz, there are other things to do besides drink. At MSU, there is nothing else to do but drink and party.

Tis the good life.

Well, of the Subject Tests on your list, I only took Biology E. Keep in mind that you can't take both Biology E and Biology M, you can only take one. As for which one to take, M deals mainly with the cell, I believe, and E deals mainly with evolution.

So I think E would definately be my best bet.

Ah, no. If you've taken a traditional ap bio course, M is your best bet because the mechanical questions are far easier then the ecology ones.

I took the bio m test after the ap bio test and got a 780 with no extra studying.

I took the Bio E after my AP Bio test and got a straight 800. Granted, my participation in several EvC sites probably had more to do with it than the AP Bio course.
