The Wheel of Time Serries

I have read the entire serries 8 times and I am currently re-reading The Path of Daggers (Book 8) and the story is still fresh and new and still amazing.

The latest book, Knife of Dreams the story picks up after the Calm Before the Storm mentality of books 8-10 and is crammed full of action and activity.

It is rumored that despite the massive storylines and plots that are yet to be complete the serries will end with Book 12 A Memory of Light which could very will be 2000 pages long since Robert Jordan is refusing to extend the serries (but if he pushed it to a Book 13 it could be used to Symbolize the 13 Forsaken).

What do you think of The Wheel of Time? Remember I consider this to be the best Fanasty Book Serries ever written.

There may or may not be a spoiler up there somewhere.......

Finally somebody else that loves the series. I've read them all twice and my friends call me a geek :D.

My thoughts on the series can be summed up in one word: wow. The guy was sitting in the hospital bored and he decided 'I can write better than this', so he became a multimillionare bestselling author. I have to try that myself sometime - minus the broken bone part and maybe adding some talent.

I have read through the series a few times so far, and I will likely buy Knife of Dreams once I an done reading it through once again.

I will also take this opportunity to post one of the crappiest puns I have ever come up with:

What does Lan fear? Lanfear!

I've read it as well. Absolutely fascinating series. The only downside was when he took off a year to write all those other backstory books.

No ones perfect but now that Robert Jordan is back in his element... Party time!

With the massively long wait between books I was almost over all my WoT withdrawal symptoms when I saw that Knife of Dreams had come out...

Back to square one.

my husband has been able to read through the entire series at least twice before a new book comes out, I refuse to pick them up because it would just frustrate me.

I've read the first 1/2 of the series 3 x..I'm going to get Knife of Dreams this month along with book 9 and 10. I am an UBER jordan fan. the only thing I don't like is that he gets a bit drawn out at times but i just skim past some of that. Got a tip for ya..try Ebay for Jordan's books they are WAY cheaper there:} I saw someone selling books 1-10 PB for $15 plus $5 shipping

Read through book five, then I realised that the story was getting repaptive and nothing was being accomplished and that Jordan was just milking out the series for far more than it was worth. he should have stopped at five books.

*dons arrogant geekboy hat*

Well, I personally liked the first few books, but Robert Jordan's let the story get away from him now, I think. He's stretching it out too long and milking it.

If you want REAL quality fantasy, purchase George R. R. Martin's fantastic "A Song of Ice and Fire", the characters are better, the action is intense, the world vibrant, the plot brilliant. It's loaded with graphic sex, violence, swearing, incest, treachery and awesome warriors. Plus for once magic is given a relatively low-key role.

I've only seen (and read) one background book. The one where Lan and Moirane meet. What are the others? :?:

Personally I think that the series is good, but not quite as good as LoTR (my favourite series). The first few books are fantastic, but it does slow down a bit after that. However, Path of Daggers does redeem Robert Jordan, it is once again a good fast moving book well worth reading :).

I would have re-read the whole series several times too but for the fact that I am missing some of the books (cant find some, and others I got out of the library due to a lack of cash at the time) :( .

There are no others. The only thing I can think of is that there are two versions of New Spring; one is a novel in its own right, the other is a shorter version that appeared in the Legends anthology. He's planning to write two more at some point (one covering Tam Al'Thor finding Rand on Dragonmount, and one showing Lan and Moiraine coming to the Two Rivers) and he's also said that he has an idea he might write in the same world, but he needs to think it over for a while to decide if it's worth it.

ROTFLMAO. I know people that have read the series upwards of fifty times. That's just hilarious.

There are no others. Untrue, there is also a book called "The Wheel of Time", I think that's it's name. The novel lays out the history and events that shaped the land, as well as offering us a final full map of the entire planet.

And it's not really a novel, is it? It's much more like a textbook, although a very interesting one

Mat Cauthon

Everyone picks him

Min Farshaw

good choice

Rand al'Thor (duh!)

Hardly duh. He's a whingy, spineless little git. Suck it up, al'thor!

Forsaken/Darkfriend
Semirhage

eh. She hasn't really done a lot, but i have high hopes she'll be pulling some cool shit next book.

Graendal

She's fucking useless. Some of the TAR stuff she does, or it's hinted she can do, is cool, but generally she sucks.

Ishamel/Moridin

Now that is pretty duh.

I pick Loial, Ingtar (good while he lasted), Moiraine, Logain, Taim, Moridin/Ishamael and Fain.

Do you post on any of the WoT websites, Neo Mishakal?

Mat's just funny. Somewhere between cheeky and sarcastic. Got to love his character. Rand on the other hand is just too serious most of the time. And his character is starting to look somewhat nasty in the long run.

That's where I do most of mine (i used to do a little on wotmania and dragonmount, too), although the message boards (currently at http://p079.ezboard.com/btheoryland) move much faster than the main site.

And I post under a different name at TL.

I read the fisrt book and to be honest it was a bit of a slog and put me off the entire series, the sheer moaniness of all the "kids" really didn't help.

I am temepted to give it a second go, as long as someone can promise me the second book gets better...

If you found "The Eye of the World" to be a slog, I shudder to think what you'd make of "Crossraods of Twilight". I would say it stays roughly the same throughout the first half of the series, then starts to slow down after that. Parts of the books are faster than others obviously. It may just be that the series is not for you. Your loss

The next book does get better, considerably so since they don't whine that much anymore and actually go and DO things about it.

Well, I'm glad a bunch of people like it, but I personally found it to be one of the most boring things I've ever read. Although some of the concepts were interesting, the execution was horrible. I tried to like it, even going as far as reading the first three books (3000+ pages) After that, I decided life was too short to waste it on such overbrearing drivel. Then I met Robert Jordan and he turned out to be such an arrogant prick that I'm glad I didn't give him any more of my money. To the reader who couldn't make it past the first book, you made the right choice. Wish I had stopped after only one.

Yeah, I made it to the middle of book six before it started getting boring. It got to the point where it was just more politics than action and I couldn't remain interested.

Now Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, that's more my speed.

Well said. I can't figure out why anyone would bother reading such a subpar series when there is hundreds of years worth of great English literature out there. Why read Robert Jordan when you can read Joseph Conrad?

One thing that did intrigue me about the series (I read the first three books and a bit): at the end of book two, Matty blow his horn and summons a bunch of heroes, and they are said to have "odd names" like Patrick and George and Tom and whatever, the implication being that they were from our time. That, along with the whole bit about fact turning into history and then legend and then myth and then being forgotten, implies that the events in WoT took place in our world, only so long ago that no one remembers them any more. Did Jordan ever develope that idea further, or reveal anything more about it?

That's part of the basic premise. There's other references, too, especially quite early in the first book (when someone, egwene I think, asks Thom to tell them a story). Anyway, I think the idea that that's how it is set up has very recently been all but discarded, because Jordan said in a recent Q&A that the sun in his world will never form a supernova (or whatever the hell it is that's going to happen to our sun)

Ugh. This series could have been so good. The first book was stupendous, but it all went downhill from there.

I quit reading when the books had nothing that moved the plot forward in several thousand pages.

Perrin was the greatest, I mean, he has all the most kickass things: modesty, a hot girlfriend/ wife (can't remember at the moment), wolfish tendancies, and a battleaxe. Awesomeness.

And Rand is such a whingy bastard, hes like harry potter in book 5
