Being thankful on Thanksgiving.
Today is Thanksgiving in the United States. As we all know it is a traditional time of large gatherings and massive amounts of food. Most of us will have a 4 day weekend away from work...and will need that much time to rid ourselves of the bloat from all the food we will consume today. Through the hard work of the selfless staff of numerous charitable organizations, even the poorest of the poor will be able to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. So, as is a custom in our family, I would like to invite you all to reflect on what you are thankful for and share it here.
I'm thankful for:
A big rowdy loving family
A warm comfortable home
Having enough to share
5 psychotic dogs
A safe friendly community
The folks in the military who put their lives on hold in order to protect me and their families who make the sacrifice
A job where I can spend my days with some of the nicest people in the world
A big fat turkey in the oven
A husband who is my rock and my heart
And I am especially thankful for all of you. I am thankful that so many people with such wildly different backgrounds and opinions have been able to put an online community together enabling us to share our differences and allowing each of us to grow in our own way. Thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!
Please share what you are thankful for. Please, no negative posts.

Though Thanksgiving is a US holiday, we all have reason to be thankful for many things. This thread is open to all. Looks like you have some very special people to be thankful for.
I am thankful that we have no Thanksgiving here. Christmas food is guilt-inducing enough, no need to introduce a rival to it.

I'm missing Thanksgiving! I'm so angry!
Wait...no I'm not! :p
My family gets cranky around the holidays. Glad I'm here, in Norden.

But the weight accumulated from 2 holidays really gives you an incentive to make a New Years resolution to go on a diet. win/win

Happy Thanksgiving to you too Zooke, and the rest who celebrate it. I'm thankful for many things as well. :)

Oh, don't get me started on the guilt from all those failed resolutions... It's just a big, annual spiral of shame.

Don't let it get you down. If you fail on a resolution, just say "Oops...better luck next year" and then do whatever makes you happy.

I was facing a crappy Thanksgiving having only the turkey, a pumpkin pie and the stuffing crumbs until my mom called and offered to send some funds. Yay for Mommies!!!

"Being thankful on Thanksgiving."
Mawnin' Miz Zooke! :D
I'm thankful for life, love, laughter, little kids ( including my granchildren, of course! ), beautiful ( Winter, Spring, Summer, Autum ) days, old dogs, good food, good friends, good drink ( wine, beer, whatever ), good causes, and so much, much more. A Christian would say I have a thankful heart! :D
I'm also grateful for every single additional day I have. Yes, the cancer thing scared me a bit. But even before that I was in love with life; just now even moreso.
And Zooke, I'm thankful for you and others like you who can find beauty and joy in small things and great. Who can take what life dishes out and ask "is that all you got???" Who can try to help a friend who lives half a world away, and just give a wry chuckle at the cynicism of others to whom you tell about him. Who never give up, never surrender to dispair, and look for things about which to be positive. You're a gift! :fluffle:

Resolutions are another form of "trying," Grasshopper. Do not try ... do! :D

Thank you Eut! You never cease to be a source of joy. And the good news on the Kashmir front....we were able to collect enough money from Joe's friends in the community and the wonderful generous people my husband and I work with to enable him to get a little apartment for himself and about 20 family members, They're a little crowded, but they're warm and dry. Friday we're sending another money wire to supplement their other needs and maybe pay for housing for more family members and friends. The work goes on! I've got things roasting and raising and cooking here and I'm getting ready to go help serve lunch at a shelter for unwed mothers and abused women. My family will be drifting in throughout the day and then we're going to feed our faces about 4 or 5. I can't wait to eat all the yummy cajun side dishes my hubby is cooking up!! There's a reason why our favorite saying in Arkansas is woooooo-pig-soooeeeeee!!

Let me share a Thanksgiving tradition with all of you:

You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
Walk right in it's around the back
Just a half a mile from the railroad track
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
Feel free to sing along.
Okay...thankful...?
1. My health (that it isn't getting worse :p )
2. My friends
3. My family
4. This outlet of my insanity I call an eMac...
5. 10 minutes dinners!

As a native Cuban now Cuban American, I give thanks to America
this Thanksgiving holiday for being a nation of many immigrants
from every nation in the world.
As I have posted many times before, I worked with a Vietnamese lady
who used to tell me, what I like most about America is the freedom
and that in America if you are Vietnamese, Cuban, Hispanic, Black,
Irish, whatever you are we are all Americans.
In my nation Vietnam like in Cuba there is no freedom,
in my nation Vietnam if you are Vietnamese you are Vietnamese
and if you are Chinese you are Chinese..
While no nation is perfect,
in my view America is the greatest nation in the world,
America is the freeest nation in the world,
thank you America, god bless you America
and happy thanksgiving.

I am thankful that I finally have enough confidence and desire to cook for thanksgiving instead of having to hope to get an invitation to someone else's house. It's quite an amazing feeling to sit down and eat a feast that you took two days to prepare.

Things I am greatful for.
My wonderful wife
I didn't lose my leg in my motorcycle accident, even though they thought I might.
Saddam doesn't get to celebrate shit!
I live in the greatest country on Earth
High speed internet
Marijuana and Percoset making my back pain bearable
I can own a gun to protect my family
The Liberals have no power to screw up the country at the moment
I'm about to go eat some leftovers!
