I'm male, heterosexual, and try very hard not to be a spelling nazi. I really do. And usually I'm successful - I hold my comments to myself.

Sometimes, however, a particularly ignorant misspelling sends me over the edge, and I just have to say something. And the misuse of apostrophes makes me cringe ever time, which is a problem considering how common that particular error has become. (What really gets me is the people who have a 100% error rate with apostrophes. They never use them where they are supposed to, and always where they aren't. :headbang: )

Yes, I know that not one of those sentences was grammatically correct. :D

I can forgive people for the occasional typo, but the trend that kills me is people who seem to just bounce their hands around the general direction of the keyboard and hope that what comes out vaguely resembles English. I'm here to tell you it doesn't.

As another poster has already mentioned, apostrophes are a major bugbear for me, too. The it's/its mixup is the worst. It's not hard to remember, guys. If you can say the sentence with "it is" or "it was" where you have "it's" and it still makes sense, then you've got it right. If it comes out sounding like nonsense (e.g. "The dog cocked it's leg." = "The dog cocked it is leg." = obviously wrong) then take the freaking apostrophe out!

Right now 66% of those respondents who were gay males claimed to be spelling nazis, while only 60% of those respondents who were straight males claimed to be spelling nazis. (At the time of writing).

Edit: straight females are 80% spelling nazis while homosexual females are 50% spelling nazis. However, the samples are pretty small on both of them.
