I was just watching the original King Kong(1933) and watched Kong kill a Tyrannosaurus. I know this is weird, but am i the only one who thinks the T-Rex would win? Anyone who agrees please respond. Thanks

How big is King Kong?

Anyways, I'd think King Kong would be smarter than the T-Rex, and his arms are long and make good weapons (especially if combined with a bus or something like that as mace).

And as far as the lifestyle of the T-Rex is concerned, I may be a few years of paleontology behind, but wasn't it a rather slow animal, and probably unwilling to get hurt, as are all predators?

Back in 1933 it was believed to be very slow, but now it's more widely accepted that dinosaurs were fast and quite deadly.

However, you're right in saying that predators really really don't like to get hurt. So, maybe all it would take is a display of strength by Kong.

BTW, special effects sure have come a long way since Harry Hausen, but I still love the original King Kong. There's something about it.

its almost david and goliath (if david had speed)
the t-rex would run circles around kong's legs until his feet fell off.
that is, if the t-rex was smart enough!:p

Some stats about the contestants:
King Kong-40 feet tall, weighted never stated, i would guess about the same as a T-rex, very smart and strong, however, unless he has a weapon, he has no real method of killing another large animal.

T-rex-now we know it was fast for it's size, smart for a reptile, and had the strongest bite of any vertebrate known to man. Small arms are a big weakness.40 ft long, 20 ft tall, 7 tons.

Can you name one animal that would want to be hurt- besides some humans that is? I think it is safe to say that prey do not enjoy pain either. :headbang:

Anyway, technically it is a V-Rex, not a T-Rex. Who knows how smart or quick this completely fictional animal is? Peter Jackson maybe.

That being said King Kong would win. I may be biased but a primate should be smarter than a reptile. He could simply climb a cliff to escape or use a tree as a club. Gorrillas have large teeth and are very strong as well.

unless he has a weapon, he has no real method of killing another large animal.

Depends how clever he is. He's got great strength, so he'd just have to know which bits are most vulnerable. He could possibly strike a weak point on the skull, strangle the t-rex, snap the neck or strike to the windpipe or arteries in the neck.

T-rex the dinosaur, or T-rex the band?

V-Rex means Virtual T-Rex, what they are called in the game. Anyway, no animal wants to be hurt, but we'll use a situation like a female T-rex defending her young, and Kong defending his girl. Also in the movie Kong snaps the T-Rex's jaw. I know he's strong put i don't think he could keep a Rex's mouth open if it wanted it closed. Also a gorilla is smart, but i don't think it can figure out which part of animal is it's weakspot.

Well, Kong, with and impressive intillect far beyond a T-Rex's, and the use of long arms, excellent acrobatic skills, and sheer brute strength, I think its no contest.

Kong, baby.

...and the Tyrannosaurus Rex is now believed to have been primarily a carrion eater, rather than a predator.

Just FYI it's Ray Harryhausen, not Harry Hausen. And he didn't work on King Kong, that was before his time. It was Willis O'Brien who worked on Kong.

the only scientist who thinks Tyrannosaurus was a scavenger was jack horner, most others believe it was oppurtunistic, both hunter and scavenger. And while it wasn't extremly fast, it's pelvic bones allowed it to maneuver well. Also skeletal remains of Rex's showed healed injuries, so it could take a beating.

Definitely in favor of T-rex. It's got strength, speed, and maneuverability, while all Kong has is brute force. And King Kong isn't real. I don't know about you but I'll take the one that really existed, thanks.

King Kong would win due to the fact his brain is bigger than a peanut. That combined with the fact a T-Rex has nubs for arms vs. King Kong gorrila arms, the arms of a gorrila being longer than their legs, make Kong the likely winner. In short King Kong is like a dinosaur... just smarter, stronger, and probably faster... plus he is just plain cool...

Actually, the answer is obvious.

I know i sound a little obsessed about it, but I really think there is no contest. A T-Rex wasn't the slow, stupid dinosaur shown in the movie. It was a ruthless killing machine, and from the looks of the skeletons, a fighting machine. Kong was strong and smart, but lack of lethal weapons hurt his chances. His jaws are to small, and his arms, though big, aren't strong enough to rip a T-rex's jaw in half. Plus, one bite from a T-Rex would most likely break bones, so any place he bites is going to be severly damaged. A bite to the head or neck would be fatal.

I think many underestimate the strength of a pissed-off gorilla, and we're talking Kong here, so... T-Rex becomes T-Bone...

Harryhausen did Mighty Joe Young didn't he?

Also, Kong could beat anything on that island to death with shovel if he wanted to, becuase otherwise we would have no movie!

IRL though, T-rex wins.

Totally true. I couldn't remember Harryhausen's first name, so I thought that was the first name. And, of course, whenever I think of stop-motion animation I think of him, so that's why I assumed it had been him.

Thanks for the straight up.

Thanks for the straight up. Harryhausen did the utterly awesome "Jason and the Argonauts", as well as the "Sinbad" films. Frankly, he kicked ass. Skeleton Warriors dude... SKELETON-FUCKING-WARRIORS!

FYI - Enraged chimpanzees have been known to be able to deadlift over 800 lbs. And that's just a chimp. Gorillas are alot bigger. Big cats won't even mess with gorillas.

T-Rex, on the other hand, was a pure killing machine. 12 inch teeth, with an extremely powerful jaw to utilize them.

Bottom line, I'd give them 1-1 odds. In other words, I think it's whoever gets the upper hand (or jaw)

However, if I had to pick, I'd say Kong. Why? Because it's Kong, for christs sake!

Jason and the Argonauts as the best Harryhausen movie. Talos, harpies, neptune, the hydra, and the skeleton army. Good stuff.
