The Juche Idea means, in a few words, that the owner of the revolution and construction are the masses.

Juche means "self reliance". The revolution must be from within, without the influance of foreign powers. The economy is also closed - autarky.

Originally it was supposed to keep the revolution in the hands of the masses. But it has ended up being a tool to keep the masses ignorant of how bad off they really are.

A book with some good information on juche (especially in the context of Korean intellectual traditions) is Bruce Cummings' Korea's Place in the Sun.
