Where in the world would you wanna live

The Atlantian islands

Where in the world would you love to live, beyond anywhere else?

I have to be rather general about it, so if you pick an option, please select the exact country in that area, or if you really want to get into it, the exact area in that country, you would like to live in and why. Thank you.

I always pictured my retirement house somewhere like this:

http://www.twistedal.com/gary/images/Western%20Vacation/Canada/Banff_to_Jasper/Moraine%20Lake%20Canada%202002.jpg

Not that I would ever really want to stay in one place for too long.

I would live in my own mansion on the Orange County Beach, California, USA, North America.

Why? Because its AMAZING...I should know, I'v been there.

The pic is from Western Canada, but that's hardly an issue. As long as it's got big forests, a few mountains, a lake, it's not too warm and it rains often enough I don't care where it is.

I really prefer Europe for living most of the times. Nice infrastructure in Germany, moderate climate, no harmful insects or plants except if you are allergic, beautiful landscapes too (I lived for some times in Dresden and often went hiking in the Sächsische Schweiz) even if they are not as impressive as in other countries ...

But where I'd would want to work or spend my holidays, now that's a different topic :)

The netherlands are not what I would call "northern". Admittedly, they have a little bit more of the coastline towards the north sea in relation to their size then Germany has ... ;)

But if you think they drink hot chocolate ... well ... there is curly-cale-harvest at the moment in north germany. Just associate yourself to some of the Grünkohl-Wanderungen and look if they drink hot chocolate

Fair enough on the geography point, I wasn't 100% sure myself.
And hot chocolate is just what I'd drink. Well, in the non-alcoholic department anyway. (I'd imagine there'd be lots of beer consumed too :D)

Weelllll. Beer is for in between on such wanderings. But no, passing out does not count as arriving, nor does puking :)

Curly kale (oops) is a kale/cabbage, that is harvested after the first freeze. Very hearty dish, if mixed with onions, bacon, spices and thoroughly minced. Often served with a very spicy sausage.

I'm tied to North America - the northeast, anyway. The area I was born and raised in is geologically very similar to the part of Europe my European ancestors were native to. Same rock strata, same forests, same types of animals - give or take. The Precambrian Shield dominates much of the landscape, and those portions of Northwestern Europe are splintered shards of that shield.

On the other hand, my native North American forebears lived nearby along the coast of the northern Appalachians, in what is now New Brunswick. Slightly younger mountains, slightly different landscape - but close enough for jazz.

I can't honestly see myself living anywhere else. I'm a part of these lands. Always have been. Even if the majority of my ancestors, on either side of the Atlantic, spent more time on the open sea than on dry land.

Out of the places I've visited, I'd want to live in Chicago. I've been there about three times and I love the place. The only major city near me is Detroit... ugh. Ann Arbor, Michigan is pretty cool though. I could definitly live there.

Someplace I haven't been... Hmm, maybe New York, Boston, or one of the other Northeastern U.S. cities. I've heard good things about Toronto in Canada. My girlfriend was in love with New Orleans, but I doubt I will move there in the near-future unless she still wants to move there at some point. Outside of the U.S., I've only been to Italy and Greece and I can't say I saw anyplace I would want to live. I don't think the Old World is for me. It's too... old. The far east though, I might be able to live there, if I could learn the language.

I've been round quite a bit of Europe: Florence comes second on my list and Salzburg comes third. I've been to Canada too (Orangeville, near Toronto) but didn't like it much.

I love England for the sense of depth of history - it just seeps out everywhere. And being raised in the Peak District in Derbyshire, nowhere else ever feels like home.

I grew up for the most part in Atlanta, and I'd absolutely love to live there again. Life was wonderful. Chicago is nice, too. Dallas wouldn't be too bad, I suppose (I don't know about Texas culture, though). Just give me a large, prosperous, roomy, expansive city with a good mix of people and a very nice fairly wealthy and diverse suburban district to live in, and I will be right at home :)

I wouldn't want to live long-term anywhere but America. Partially because I would like to keep what I earn, thank you very much. However, I would like to spend a good deal of time in east Asia. Still, that would probably prove too crowded for my tastes to enjoy for a long stay.

True... how long do you think until one of them shows up and points a finger at me telling me that if it weren't for them, I'd be speaking German now?

You'd be speaking Russian, silly. We scared the commies away from your worthless countries :p :p

On snow - snow in Atlanta is awesome. Why? Because it snows and sticks perhaps once a year, but when it does and it puts a couple of inches on the ground, everyone seems to appreciate it. Unlike what I've heard from northern states people, who don't think snow is anything too special.

From experience, its no fun to live in a place loaded with a bunch of people that all have the same ideology. Be it Southern Baptists, Catholics, Athiests, or what have you - only good things can come of no dominance by one group. Thankfully, I have lived for most of my life in such a place. However, I am currently in a much more homogenous religious conservative environment. Heck, I'm a conservative myself, but this is really boring unless I meet someone else like me who has been out and about in the world and has a little different perspective on things as well.

Honestly, I miss my liberal and athiest friends ;)
