How the left could win 08

This is all theoretical, but:
IF the Green Party was finally accepted into the Dems
IF the Dems paid attention to the young vote
IF it wasn't 60 year old hippies running the party
The Green Party is a major factor. Maybe 3 or 4 percent seems like nothing, but it cost both Gore and Kerry the election(s). The same happened with Bush Sr. If Ross Perot was not an independant, that small percentage would have tipped the election. Nader is an egotistical bastard.
The left needs new leadership to gain the young(EXTREMELY LARGE) vote. People like Ted Kennedy need to be pushed to the side for younger yet less experienced politicians like Edwards or Dean. Or even Clark.
All of this is null if hell freezes and McCain is nominated on the right.
All theoretical stuff that will never happen in the near future.

Come on, mate, you have to do better than "left-right".
Also, the Democrats are about as "left" as a horse's penis waving in the wind. (TM)

Not rooting for a US defeat might also help a little.

It's not rooting for defeat it's realizing the inevitable. An idea that might save a sinking ship. As a left leaning person it seems to be the only way to take control now not later.

We don't know if it is inevitable. However, people who see the US defeat as inevitable won't have a chance of winning since it implies that the soliders there are dying in vain, and that's a definite strike against you.
You also have to remember that most Americans are not left-wing; there are more self-identified conservatives than liberals. The only way the Democrats will win is through playing to the center and offering ideas rather than just whining about what the Republicans are doing. A Democratic "Contract with America" would be a powerful weapon in 06/08.

Surely that definition of how left they are depends upon where the horse is located, no?

Not to mention how strong the wind is blowing...

The Dems can come back if they run to the center RIGHT NOW. But, as I mentioned that won't happen until the leadership has changed. Then we can fix the debacle of Iraq and the admin.

The 'left' can't win the '08 US election because there isn't a main 'left' party.

The Dems are trying to be a middle of the road party but they can't. The left vote is all they can get. Obviously without the values vote the Dems can't be a center party. As for now theyre still left
And will lose in 08 anyway thanks to people like Ted Kennedy
How the left can win:
1) Start an actual left party,
2) everyone that didn't vote last election but could have, votes for the new left party.

Do Republicans really believe that Democrats hate their own country?
The Dems are trying to be a middle of the road party but they can't. The left vote is all they can get.
How do you know this? They're a hell of a lot closer to the centre than the Republicans.
