Dihydrogen Monoxide

Some people on this forum are worried about uranium shells while ignoring a real chemical problem: Dihydrogen Monoxide
Here are some scientfically proven or credible source confirmed facts.
-it can cause excessive sweating and vomiting,
-it is a major component in acid rain,
-accidental inhalation of it can kill you,
-it can cause severe burns when in gaseous form,
-it contributes to severe erosion of the natural landscape
-it decreases the effectiveness of automobile brakes
-it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients.
-The military keeps large stores of it
-causes thousands of deaths each year
-Government and corporations use it as a coolant in nuclear reactors
This seems a largely ignored story to me. Do you think it should be banned? The answer I think is obvious.

Those in the know please remain silent.

If everyone doesn't know, they should damn well be able to work it out. I mean come one, people, I bet you were taught about that bloody molecule in primary school! (5-11)

It could of course be a long-established poster flying a flag of convenience as they go about their business of meta-trolling.

Something to do with the 34 (count 'em) threads which have appeared on Jolt in the last year debating or making mention of the tired old topic of dihydrogen monoxide, perchance?

you are talking to the wrong people then, I did a science project on this in elementary school. (that was 16 years ago) my dad thought it was hilarious, my teacher gave me a C because while it was a good effort, a joke isn't science.

my project was not about it so much as to see how many people I could get to sign a petition to make it illegal. It was more to prove the point that people don't care what they sign as long as they feel they "fit in"

I got 38 signatures in only 2 hours. nobody asked for more info, and only one person figured out what I was doing, and he was a chem teacher. ;)

Apart from the fact that has...absolutely no relevance, it's more like 104.5.

The flu causes thousands of deaths each year as well, it's not like anyone is going to be exposed to it while it's being used as a coolant in a nuclear reactor, and if they are, it's not going to be the Dihydrogen Monoxide that will kill them.

Dihydrogen monoxide? That stuff is nothing compared to hexacarbonduodecahydrogenhexoxide, to say nothing of amino-ethanoate (I'm a little rusty on chemistry, though, so I could be off a bit).

Since Dihydrogen Monoxide was the the recommended name following official IUPAC nomenclature (albeit used by no-one serious) you're a bit off, but meh.

I love the stuff in my drinks, but only in small amounts and cooled down below 32 degrees.
