Is it Zarqawi?

Well, we all know that Ocean Drive won't believe it, even if they do have the body.
I had also been discussing the pros and cons of a strategy that involves killing terrorists when you can (based on a news story that most of Zarqawi's inner circle have been killed or captured). My idea is that a terrorist is a fanatic, and a top terrorist is a skilled and clever fanatic, and fanatics like that don't grow on trees - so if you kill most of the skilled and clever ones, it takes a while to "grow them back" - in the meantime, you possess the operational advantage. Rather like cutting your nails - knowing that they will grow back.
Sounds like they may have gotten him, and the rest of his inner circle.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. forces sealed off a house in the northern city of Mosul where eight suspected al-Qaida members died in a gunfight — some by their own hand to avoid capture. A U.S. official said Sunday that efforts were under way to determine if terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was among the dead.

Insurgents, meanwhile, killed an American soldier and a Marine in separate attacks over the weekend, while a British soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in the south.
In Washington, a U.S. official said the identities of the terror suspects killed was unknown. Asked if they could include al-Zarqawi, the official replied: "There are efforts under way to determine if he was killed."

Woot! The entire human race is now, on average, somewhat less evil than it was a minute ago.

Indeed. I'd ask that Zarqawi to do my taxes.

I certainly hope that Zaqawi is dead! Being rather kind and courteous I'd say he was a piece of $h!t that deserves hell for what he has done. He is clever, I'll give him that, but a psychotic megalomaniac like him obsessed with killing can't help being clever. I mean if you were obsessed with science you'd waltz through your exams.
And I must agree that his appearance does keep changing. Right now he looks like a guy who works in Dixons. I hope at the moment he looks like a corpse.

I would like to see one of those "Ugly" and "Queasy" Hussein style photos of Zaqawi. Plenty of bullet holes and very little movement.

Having checked the BBC and CNN websites, this is not mentioned- thanks to the 'miracle' of 24hr news bulletins, cock ups are frequent.
Anyone remember during the early days of the invasion, Sky News reporting by the minute? Yeah, apparently an entire Iraqi Republican Guard Division just upped and surrendered at say 4.03pm.
By 4.08pm the division was pronounced still fighting.
4.17pm, scattered remnants of the division were still forlornly battling even though the commanding officer had offically surrendered.
4.32pm, the division had not surrendered and had in fact been 60kms away all the freakin time!
Sky News: "Whoops"
I'll reserve judgment on this story for a while yet.;)

Sounds good...but Saddam's lacking the bullet-holes a bit isn't he. And he's grown a beard. Obviously going for the Santa Claus look.

Meh, we don't even know whether he's actually alive. Plenty of people have been claiming that he's dead for years, and he's been back every time yet.
And even if he was dead, he's probably got a whole set of commanders he trained and indoctrinated and who'll take over in no time.

Very true but what I am hearing now is that it is based on one of their websites saying after the fact that one of the dead was a high ranking member with his picture pasted next to it.
It really makes me wonder if there is a relationship between this and his own family posting notices of his disownership in the Jordainian papers. It would make sense for them to do that if he had already been checked, just to keep the pissed off King at bay.
