If this hypothetical situation was, in fact, real, I would go out and act completely on impulse. I would probably get a motorcycle and try to break 200 mph.

So everybody thinks life DOES have meaning?

Ever heard about improving yourself? And have fun of course, but self-improvement comes first. There's lots of things to do and learn about while you're living.

I'd probably go on pretty much as I have done until now - living a Christian life, but just because its a good way to live.\

This, of course, assumes that we have proof that God no longer exists. If not then I'd go on exactly as I have until now :p

But then this is a hypothetical, so we can probably ignore the second paragraph of this post. But then if we blank it from existence then this paragraph becomes the second and we blank it and then the original comes back and... whoa, I think I just melted my brains. I can't think these things on weekends, it's illegal.

You should give the money to Myrth, for he will spend it wiselier then you! Or you could find a handful bums, and buy each one a bible and a ham sandwich. Then force them to eat the bible and demand that they read the ham sandwich. It won't actually help anything, and will probably get you killed/arrested, but at least the act of telling you to do so made me giggle a bit.

My answer : live a good life, just like I do now. Why should a lack of god/meaning stop us from making our own? (meanings, that is)

But if God does not exist then how did we get here? So if God doesn't exist then people can't exist, which means that the DA and the police can't exist, so I could go rob as many non-existant banks and buy as much non-existant cheese and as many non-existant Ferraris and drive them as fast as my non-existant little heart desires, and I won't get arrested!

*Jumps back into '89 Voyager and putters off to the nearest bank*

I've never felt that life had any particular meaning, and I'm agnostic so god not existing wouldn't come as a huge shock. I probably wouldn't change my behavior all that much because when i'm doing somehting I don't think "How does this fit into the meaning of my life?" I'd still want to live, partly because dying would be hurting everyone who loves me, and party because I think there's plenty left to experience and since we're here, why not?

We must become our own gods. We must lead the way, not fall into decline. (hypothetical)

If there were no God I would probably stop praying. I do not think there's much else I would change.

If there were no meaning of life, I would create one for myself. In fact, this is what is done already, since even if there is a meaning of life one does not know what it is and does not necessarily feel any obligation to pay attention to the "official" version anyway.

As I understand it, if there was no God, the universe would make one to fill its space. It's the Bottom-up heirarchy; as long as anything exists in the universe, there will be something at the top.

That's exactly what I told my fundamentalist friend. He thinks that if there were no God, then there would be no point in living according to morals. I think of it the other way around; my life wouldn't have much meaning if my purpose was to follow some divine plan.

the question halfway revolves around the fact of whether morals have meaning without a superior power to back them up. i don't think they do so we'd end up with hell on earth i think.

to go off on a tangent for a minute: life w/o a divine/cosmic plan doesn't make a point because then you can never get past the question of why? but if you can answer why then you get to the question of will it work and perhaps that's part of the meaning of life. If you think you're taking part in a huge Good v/s Evil war then regardless of which side you choose at least it can be exciting.

Yes! Douglas Adams was a radical atheist, and I have to say I agree with his philosophy, which is basically that there is no God but that we're all here and we should all try to get along, improve ourselves, and have fun! :p

Now god doesn't really matter in my meaning of life... so I dunno what diff that would make, the meaning of life afaic is enjoying yourself. Now if you take happiness away... uhm, them you take sadness away as well.. and then I can't really say what I would do :confused:

WHAT NOW?I would behave in exactly the same way I ever have.

If somehow they scientifically proved that there was no God, I doubt my life would change much at all.

I would still act the same way I do now, I would probably continue to go to church (which would be slightly modified) I would still read the Bible (it's a pretty good book anyway)

I already think there isn't a god, and that there is no ultimate meaning of life. All it means to me is that we can concentrate on improving things in the here and now, rather than waiting for some miracle. *shrug*

I would leave the "improving things" to others---except for improving weapons.
