A Police State or the Apocalypse?

It's a rather simple question...but the answer you may find difficult...

Would you rather live in a:

Totalitarian Police State

You have no rights to speak of, you're watched 24/7/365 and you live under the constant fear of death after a very long and unpleasant torture session. There are little bits of resistance, but their shortly quelled by some good ol' cleansing.

OR A

Post-Apocalyptic Hellhole

The world has ended due to war/epidemic/meteor shower/etc. and there is no more structure to the world. Survival of the fittest baby! Your lifespan is back to what it was in the 1400's and your more likely to die from someone's "bad day" than anything else.

So? What do you think?

That depends. Is the Totalitarian Police State worldwide?

Okay, for means of clarity, both are worldwide.

I'm going to have to go with option C - living high above it, all on a private spaceship, drinking fine drinks and sexing fine women. Until the fuel runs out and the air recyclers become inert, at which point I plan to die from a massive heart attack mid-climax.

However, since you make me choose...Post apocalyptic hell hole. Although that depends upon how dystopian your nightmare is - if we're talking Brave New World Dytopian, I'll take it!

I suppose it would depend on whether the world got that way because of me. :p

The police state. If you play by their rules, you can live very well. You have to be careful though to avoid getting too close to the regime, especially if they are fond of liquidating those close people.

I'd go with the post-apocalyptic world. In the police state you are stifled, blocked, broken. You have no control over your life - you are bound in chains by the authorities. In the post apocalypse, however, you can at least try to forge a new world.

My choice really depends on the exact type of each alternative. But, if it's a choice between living in a regime like that in Brazil or coping with a post-disaster world like that in Survivors, I think I'll take the post-apocalyptic hell.

Mind you, there's the distinct possibility we could end up with both in a 12 Monkeys-style post-apocalyptic totalitarian regime.

I'd go for the post-apocalyptic hellhole. Think how exciting it could be - you could forge a new world, and future generations would sing songs of your brave deeds.

If it's a police state, records would technically show that as 'MIA fighting for the Police State'. Do you still want to be that man?

It wouldn't matter coz I'd be dead - right?

I chose post-apocalyptic on the assumption that the police state could be very boring and tedious. Obviously if I knew more about the two worlds, I could make a more informed choice.

Post-Apocalyptic Hellhole.
I wouldn’t last five minutes in a police state, what with my big mouth and all.

Theoretically, how long do you think you'd last in said hellhole?

Longer than I would in a place where people were specifically looking for jerks.

So they're saying they'd just ignore your loud mouth in the Hellhole? Personally, I think with the destruction of laws, they wouldn't have a problem with killing you right there.

Easily the post apocalyptic hellhole, the only way to go is up and there would still be a lot of raw materials to work with. You could eke a decent living out of mutual survival.

Post Apocalyptic hellhole, if only so I can form a roguing band of neo-warriors, intent upon asking strangers for food then, if they have no food, forcing them to play family fortunes with an invisible board...

...

....oh ffs, it's a reference. Leave me alone. If you want IC stuff, look at my previous post questioning the moralistic code of the Police state.

I would rather die with freedom, however useless, than in a policestate, so the post-apocalyptic hellhole sounds like a marginally better option.

I have marginal rhetorical and leadership skills. So I pick the hellhole, so I can have the chance to create the Independant Republic of John Miles, with a few thousand followers. People would respect me too much to kill me.

Post-Apocalyptic Hellhole. I'm sure that some of the survivors would have the brains to band together. We'd rebuild society in the image of a fallen civilization, Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda style.

Personally, I'd take rebuilding civilization over being crushed under the jackboot of the state.

Which one has more Zombie Pirates?

Okay...lets assume that with the post-apocalyptic fallout we'll have zombie pirates created by radiation. Also...let's assume the government is engineering these things in a lab in the Police State...

So...I'd say BOTH!

You guyz are nuts. The US is a police state, and there are tiny cameras everwhere. We must fight the government!:mp5: :sniper: :headbang: :gundge:

Anyway, the world is already ending anyway, and the prophecies in the bible are all coming true. If you guyz think I'm just nuts, well :upyours: !

A global totalitarian police state equipped with modern technology would do more harm to the development of our species than a single disaster of almost any conceivable magnitude.

Post-Apocalyptic Hellhole. Just me, my sniper rifle, and plenty of ammo. Not to mention an armored vehicle, a gang, and a good deal of food.

And bears...that shoot laser beams out of their eyes!

I would choose a post-apocalyptic hell-hole for a multitude of reasons.

First off, I have substantial leadership skills, as well as many close friends and followers.

Second off, I know a lot of people in the military, and my dad knows more. My grandparents know even more people in the higher-ups of government. Using these people, I could train a personal army as well as a series of governmental officials.

Combining the two, add a pound of emotion, and a dash of hope, and the fact it wouldn't be too hard to regain the materials lost, I could create a nation and restart civilization, and eventually, after the solidification of power and the community, expand....

And create the global totalitarian state. :p
