No I haven't, and no I wouldn't. You never know when that hot little 19 year old is a 400 fat man named Bob.

Agreed. Creating realtionships shouldn't be left up to computers.

Damned dating websites - all you want is someone to love and you get the cloning rejects from the computer programming society. :(

Okay, the fat man named bob... that scares me >.>
As for online dating services, they are a load of crap really. Just because you fill out a questionnaire or a personality profile or whatever those things have you do, doesn't mean that they are going to know that the person with the most similar profile is going to click with you. I mean the ones that ask what kind of person you're looking for must assume that you actually -know- what you want, and a hell of a lot of people think they do but are really clueless.
Take me for instance. I technically met my boyfriend of almost four years on the internet. BUT. it was in emailing a reenacting group that I wanted to join, a group of people in this area that go out, away from the computer, and do stuff. So I had a short convo with him (he was the president of the group at the time ) about when my first event was and how I was going to get there and so forth, but right after that I met him face to face because he offered to take me. We kept in touch after that online, to make lunch plans as friends and figure out future carpools and so forth, but that is mostly because I -hate- talking on the phone. I wasn't even really looking for a boyfriend at the time, and if had I answered a load of questions on what some dream guy out there in cyberspace should be then I would never have found the guy I'm with now, who in fact redefined "Dream guy" for me. ;)
So I guess it just really all depends on the way you go about it. If you go to some site that makes more money every time you have to try again to link up with somebody, then uh. it's my humble opinion you're asking for a long wait. If you use the computer as a tool to get out and just meet people with similar hobbies/interests as yourself, you're likely to find exactly what you were looking for (or not looking for) in due time.

:P yep, a little liquor never hurt your chances. unless of course you're looking for an uberconservative straight shooter, in which case you just totally screwed yourself over. :headbang:

I imagine that you'll get about the same distribution of successes and horror stories as from any other arbitrary method of meeting.
How you try to meet people is pretty irrelevant. How good you are at spotting frauds, drama kings/queens, assholes, b*tches, users, cheats, and abusive peckerheads and avoiding them is the more relevant issue....

I've never used an online dating service, but I did meet my husband through the internet. :)
We had both joined up at the inception of a brand new writing community. As everyone was getting to know each other a bit, we both just kind of hit it off even though neither of us were looking for anyone. That's why I'm now living in the US, facing yet another bitterly cold winter and bemoaning the loss of my nice mild Aussie winters.
Meeting each other for real for the first time was pretty scary, but not because either of us thought the other would be misrepresented. Both of us were totally upfront about who we were and what we'd done in our lives up to that point, etc. Also we had the benefit of webcams and microphones, so we had talked via the internet essentially with videophone. After our first face-to-face meeting there was no question that we were made for each other.
