I think I may have found my new beer of choice. All we need now is for this beer to be introduced to schools as a "teaching aid", and we'll be set.

okay, normally I -do- say American beer sucks, but I would drink this. ;)

"I guess some people are going to get a chuckle out of it. I don't see anything funny about it," Buttars said. "Anytime someone (tries to) sarcastically exploit issues of morality in those kinds of ways is very unappealing. But it doesn't bother me, whatever they put on there."

It is not even a fricken issue of morality in the first place, it's a conflict of ideals, a portion of the population putting on blinders against anything that might conflict with their safe little beleif system and trying to change laws so that everyone else must do the same. The fact that they are so frightened that their children might learn of other ideas and viewpoints and have a chance to decide for themselves what they beleive really grinds my gears every time I think about it.

By 'American beer sucks,' people are referring to the mass-marketed brand name stuff. Microbreweries on the other hand are quite good.

Yes, exactly. There are some very decent brands out there, but not many that you see advertised on say... the Superbowl. (which I don't ever bother to watch anyways) But yeah, all the mass marketed stuff pretty much -has- to been consumed ice cold so that it's likeness to diluted horse p--- is minimized.

Definitely. Living in Australia, I had gathered the impression that American beers were universally revolting. Living in the US I discovered that just refers to things like Budweiser (equivalent to our ultra-crappy Fosters, why they export THAT as the epitome of Aussie beers I'll never know, 'cause it's crap). I drink tons of beer here, almost all of it from various microbreweries. There are literally dozens of them around here, and it's heavenly. :)

Ah, beer...... *heads to the fridge*

Yes. Often true around the world, but only because there are thousands of microbreweries, hence there are bound to be a few that make a spanktacular beer which far surpasses the fixed, high selling, cheap beer mass-produced by bigger brewers.

Lets boycott all nationalist beer. Canada generally has good beer except its two biggest brands molson canadian and labbat blue.

If you buy beer, you buy the cheapest one that is going to get you drunk the fastest. Long live $1 a bottle micobrews.

I used to work for the place that Sierra Nevada wishes it could be as good as--Anchor Brewing in San Francisco. You may find a beer of equal quality elsewhere in the world, but you won't find one better.

Microbrewery stuff hardly ever gets exported, enough isn't made. People think of there own beer as microbrewer's and foreigner's of mass market stuff.

To be fair, calling Budweiser or Coors shit would be dignifying it unduly. I'd sooner drink Skol or Carling or something: that's vile horsepiss as well, but it's a lot cheaper.

That's what they're primarily known for--they have a copyright on the name--and when I worked there, the rule was that after you'd been on the clock for four hours, you could drink. You couldn't drink on the line, but you could have a beer or two with lunch, as long as you didn't get shitty. And then after work, we'd go up to the taproom and hang out with the people from the tour and drink. Oh, and we got a free case of shorts (which were full bottles, just mislabeled) to take home every week.

God, I miss that job.

Yeah, I've had the Anchor Steam and it is bloody good stuff. For those who love Sam Adams, it's okay for a mass-produced beer. It's at least drinkable, which is more than you can say for most mass-produced beers. The largest local brewer here is Fordham, and most of their beer is pretty reasonable (especially their Black & Tan). The best part about where I live though is the German restaurant a few miles down the road. They import all sorts of fantastically yummy German beers - the rauch my favourite.

But I still miss good ol' Coopers Red from home (Australia). The only Aussie beer to be found in America is Fosters (*makes vomiting noises*).

I recently had a holiday in England, and one of the things I enjoyed about that was the fact that Guinness was on tap everywhere. Hmm, heaven. :)

Microbrewery stuff is always loads better.

But after the traumatic experience that was Budweiser (eurgh! it's worse than Fosters! Or even FourEx!), i'm not game to try any mass produced american beers for a while.

Though I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of this this. It looks cool (in an uncool sort of way :p) and is supposed to be brilliant.

The fact that they are so frightened that their children might learn of other ideas and viewpoints from a beer label speaks volumes about their talents as parents.

When I lived near Pittsburgh many years ago, there was a local brewery that made the greatest beer I have ever tasted ... Iron City. They closed shortly after I left for Vietnam, probably because they had lost my business. ;)

*looks at above post, realises it's a total rambling mess, shrugs and gets another beer...*It was a part-time gig that supplemented my fellowship income, and when the fellowship ended, and I had a chance to get a teaching gig in Florida, I had to go. It killed me, I've got to tell you. They paid part-timers very well, but San Francisco is retarded expensive to live in, and it wasn't enough on its own.

Even a lot of Americans think that Budweiser is rancid horsepiss. However, I know some people who drink it and actually claim its good. I have a friend who I gave a bottle of Guinness to try, and he said he liked Budweiser better. It took everything I had not to stab him in the eye right then and there.

I've noticed that the more beer you drink the less you mind the fact that it's Natural Light Ice. Not that it tastes any better, your tastebuds are just too drunk to tell the difference.

You make a great point here- your taste buds do get drunk before you do. When you sip one or two beers with a meal, you taste them and enjoy their quality.
But when you start pounding them, it could be Coors Light and you may not notice the difference.

I often drink Sam Adams various beers and feel they are all a good quality.

I' m wondering if the "Cranberry Lambic" will come out again thsi year. I like a few of those around the holidays.

Pretty much. Depends on the beer though. Sometimes the first sip is "Ugh!" and then it gets better with the next one.

Bells Cherry Stout is of the sort where the first taste isn't good, but the rest are wonderful. With that beer your tastebuds just aren't expecting something so good and need a second to adjust :D

However, my favourite beer in all the world as to be: Free beer. If I didn't buy it, it's the best :p

If you're tasting vodka, something is seriously wrong with the vodka. The whole idea behind vodka is that it's supposed to be tasteless, that it gives an alcoholic kick to whatever mixer you're putting into it--unless it's infused, like that Absolut Citron shit, etc.
