Everytime a holiday comes around I get sick and sure enough I got sick for my birthday. Does anybody have any good cold remedies that really work? Right now I'm trying Echinacea with Vitamin C, Advil Cold and Sinus and Sunny-D. It's not helping, but then again I'm impatient. :(

I have had this awful cough for weeks, and I swear by these (http://www.karlehmer.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=220) cough drops: Best tasting, very soothing. Also try tea. You can alliviate colds, not really get rid of them.:(

what are your symptoms? cough? fever? stuffyness?

My grandmother used to give me a shot of bourbon to clear up any stuffy, wet cough, type symptoms. Make sure all the other meds you have tried are out of your system first though, because bourbon doesn't mix well with nyquil and the like.

Also, my doctor recomends gargling with scope 3 times a day to clear out stuff and kill off germs, it kept me from getting a cold last year. ;)

Cough, stuffiness, excess phlegm all the typical stuff. Last night I was coughing so hard there was a minor amount of blood. I'm hoping it's not bronchitis because I don't have the insurance to get antibiotics.

Vindaloo - but a proper dead hot one - followed by drinking yourself into a coma with expensive scotch.

That always gets rid of colds.

Lemon & honey. Chili is also good.

I could definately do the scotch. I'm afraid the vindaloo, while I'm sure it would clear my sinuses, would probably kill me. Unfortunately I have no tolerance for spicy things at all.

Spicy food tolerance is something that is learned. And the only way to learn it is by eating it. Anyway, vindaloo is amazing for cold/hayfever/sinus problems.

gargel with hot salt water, and drink lots of liquid and orange juice(the real stuff), and sleep :)
for a cough take 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon lemon and 1 tablespoon of whiskey, mix and then heat up on the microwave and drink
if you dont have whiskey you can use rum. it makes you cough go away and your throat feel better.

Seeing as how I get sick at the sight of a passing germ, I can safely say that usually what works for me is cough drops out the wazoo, lots of fluids (I drink about twice as much water PLUS all the juices), and shoot for an abundance of vitamin C. There's really nothing that's going to cure a cold, as has been said, so what's most important is to simply make yourself feel less crappy. Also, Vicks Vaporub works really well for clearing up congestion for me -- either rubbed on your chest or, if it's just sinus, you can put a little bit under your nose. It's not the prettiest smelling stuff in the world, but it's better than not breathing, IMO.

A hot bath(some say no way to getting wet while your sick.. I myself.. If I'm not clean I won't get well.. my pours have gotta be open), some good hearty chicken/vegetable soup n crackers slowly, garlic, honey, liqour, sleep, sleep, sleep. Fever -- if high -- tylenol and a cold rag on back of neck, wrists, ankles etc. (if persists and rises -> 911) -- force a little vege or chicken stock, gatorade, sleep sweat, sleep sweat. Love is always a good thing. :p

A bit of Zinc and vitamin C might help also. or Green Tea.

Thanks everyone. I downed some nyquil to sleep through the night and tomorrow I'll hit the store. I may even try to be brave and test some of that spicy hot remedy. My dad swore by spicy foods, but I could never get past the burning in my mouth. I'm desperate enough to try almost anything.

Hot bath, half a bottle of the spirit of your choice, 1/2 to a pund of chocolate. Then out the bath to bed. Works every time for me (well that's what I tell myself).
