I know this won't mean much to those who don't watch football (fine fine, 'soccer') but this is quite a big thing and a big shock for European football:

Roy Keane has left Manchester United by mutual consent.
The Old Trafford club confirmed in a statement on Friday that Keane, 34, had left with immediate effect after 12-and-a-half years with United.

Keane gave an interview to MUTV last month, after a 4-1 defeat at Middlesbrough which he did not play in, where he was critical of the side....

Keane and his manager were once famously close, with the Irishman seen as his boss' spokesman on the pitch.

But the pair began to drift apart following a row at the club's pre-season training camp in Portugal last July.

That disagreement was believed to be about the quality of the set-up in Portugal and the fact that players' wives were allowed to attend.

Irish Radio says he was sacked after turning up to a reserve game to be told he wasn't needed and then was told to see the management. Apparently, he's been sacked for mouthing off about how crap the club has been doing recently.

Thoughts, comments, myrth, etc? Who's to blame? Where will he go? Manager or continue playing? Who took my damn sandmwich?

Since I hate Man U, I think it's a shame - Keane was a constant source of embarrasment for them, which endeared him to me somewhat ;)

I don't flame normally, or Troll, but FUCK OFF:mad:

I'm a memeber, have been for 10 years, and having seen him numerous times, I can assure you that bloke is awe inspiring.

Roy Keane 1992-2005, the legend lives on...

incidentally, to any gooners out there, he outlasted Vieira:p

He's not gonna take the Ireland managerial job- he says he wants to finish his career (a year/18mths) out in a foreign club.

Galacticos? Milan? Barca?

Having met the guy personally, he seems a decent bloke, but he isn't one of my favourite players. Seeing him at Bradford though, I can doubt his effect on the pitch towards his team, however...

He deliberately went to injure Alf Inge Haarland and I will never EVER forgive a man who purposefully goes out to cripple another player. Haarland, although having put Keane out for a few months the season before, never meant the tackle on Keane, where as Keane viciouly went for revenge. Therefore he might be a legend to some, but to others he is a brutal thug on occasions.

Disagree all you like, but you can't argue his dark side and single mindedness aren't a let down on some occasions.

Gattuso, Pirlo and Keane in the same midfield?!!? Can you say "suspension pending" ;) :p :D

He is, behind Cantona, the greatest player to grace the premiership, he is motivated, and takes a pride in his game. As for Haaland, if you read the autobiography, by all accounts Haaland hardly went for the ball, and was downright nasty afterwards calling him a diver and spitting on him. He deserved it.

Sorry, but I am hardly going to take his autobiography as gospel truth. Having read it myself, there is a lot of stuff that in there that suffers from lack of perspective, this incident especially.

Granted Haarlands tackle was nasty, but seriously, having seen it numerous times, it wasn't half as bad as Keane's. Keane never even looked for the ball when Haarland was on it the whole game, he was just looking for Haarland. No player ever deserves their career being ended and he never deserved it.

Still, I agree that his motivation, his pride and determination are still above all others, and, minus that one tackle, he is the greatest player of his era in the prem, even above Cantona IMHO.

In all honesty i think thats where he will end up. If you get Ballack i'll be suprised, i think he will go to Real. But Duscher will be a good buy. You need steel in the midfield, an as Mr. Beckham found out, Duscher certainly has that :D
