Well, what do you all think?

Some claim he's too left wing, since he was a the head of the Histadrut (labour federation -(union)) for so long.

Some claim he is unqualified for the leadership of Labour, and possible Prime Ministership considering his lack of parlaimentary experience.

Some say he will bring the country's "ethnic" mizrahi vote toward Labour, away from their traditional Likudnik bastion.

Some say he lacks security and military experience. Others cotend that his connections to the mosad are sufficient, while some say this lack is in fact a bonus.

Some say he looks to much like Stalin, and that his mustache is unsightly.

There has been quite alot of excitement about this man - here's a few articles about him:

I like him. His talk about Peace and actually supporting rather than criticising the PA sounds like a good idea.

To those that think he's too left-wing, I'd simply say one word: "Kibbutz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibbutz)".

Peretz actually was born in Morocco, and spent time in a temporary "ma'abara" or immigrant camp. He has nothing to do with the Israeli Kibbutznik elite.

If you were offering a contrast, welll, it doesn't make much sense. Kibbutzes aren't political entities, rather economic and ideological ones. The fact that a bunch of teenage russian communists fouded them doesn't say much about their residents' current politiacal leanings.

The point is simply that Israel, and Zionism was always a left-leaning, socialist movement.
It may not so much matter today, but I would suggest people keep that in mind when they criticise supposedly Socialist candidates.

The "Kibbutznik Elite" you're talking about afterall built Israel, defended it when necessary and provided an example to the rest of the country. Peretz may be a totally different kind of person, but I thought I'd simply preempt the invariable "teh Socialism is teh Evil!!11!!one1!!" arguments.

Peretz is the ultimate populist economy wise. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a prime minister seat.

Moreover, until he quits as the head of the Histadrut, I simply won't see his very presence in the Knesset as legitimate.
