And yes, people, this is why many of us frown heavily upon Christianity. Yes, I know it's not a reflection of the majority, but, these assholes are the ones who speak the loudest and they are the fundies that are wrecking America.

But if Christians were ever wondering why people didn't like them, then perhaps they ought to rally against their own kin who preach such hatred and bigotry.

Remember, these are the same people that protested at the funeral of a gay teenager who had been murdered! This is extremely unChristian and didn't Christ urge men and women, "judge not lest ye be judged"?

This Jerk came to my town this summer to protest our openly gay mayor and every church came out against Fred P. DO NOT liable this man as a christian or even a man of any God. He is a loon and so are every member of his so called church. He did not even have the guts to come to town himself. It was fun to watch our Mayor and his boyfriend walk hand in hand into the Catholic Church with the Priest walking with them. The protesters howled in anger as the supporters of the Mayor cheered.

Yeah, Phelps hates just about everything that goes on here at KU. Since his home is 20 minutes away, he's over here a lot with his crew yelling about how God hates America because of "teh gheys." I've personally been to three shows (a concert, a drama, and a dance troupe) at the Lied Center, and there he was. I just try to cry, then laugh, then pray that God shows this guy the light. You never know, it could happen.

There have already been two or three other threads in the past THREE days where you could have seen "nice Christians....who will stand up and say...". Seriously dude, if you are going to search a cave for a terrorist, search it all the way to the end, or if you are to lazy, atleast through a grenade far back there and run out.

When ever I see that website, I feel ashamed to be a Christian (well, ashamed of some of my fellow Christians).

When I saw your "god hates vets" fliers, I wished desperatly that it was a joke, than cryed because I knew it wasn't.

When I saw your "god hates indiana" link, I felt nauseus.

Speaking as a Christian with gay relatives, I do not know how the hell we, as christians, as people, condone this hatred.

I'm fine (well, ok- well, a little less than 'ok') if you choose to believe, for constitutional reasons, that my uncle should not get married. I can understand that belief, and acknowledge it. But, if my uncle ever died, thanking god for killing him- that's what I can't understand.

Phelps and his ilk are freaks, and he in NO way speaks for all Christians. Please try to remember that as with any group of people, Christianity has more than it's fair share of haters and just plain Bad Folk who happen to be sadly, more vocal and visible than the more reasonable and responsible believers who don't think like this at all.

Not only that, but there's no way you can lump all Christians together under a 'their religion' blanket and expect it to fit. It doesn't. Far too many differences in all the different sects - which is again, one of the problems with misunderstandings, misinterpretations and the like which all too often lead to hate. Some groups are far more ... well, nasty than others and make no apologies for it - which I find rather reprehensible.

I grew up in a very religious family, and I've never had a problem with folks who believe differently than I do. Nor did my parents or church teach me to think that I ought to despise or 'rebuke' others for what they believed. I've had friends that are Jewish, Muslim, Bhudist, Taoist, Atheist, Agnostic, Pagan, Deist, believers in Native American spiritualism, and a plethora of different Christian faiths. And no, I don't happen to believe they're 'going to hell' because they believe differently than me, and I very much do not believe that God hates them. Quite the opposite.

Now a challenge for you, since I've answered yours:

With the obvious exceptions of hate-speech and wrongminded proselytizing that I don't expect anyone to have to accept, do you think in time you also might be able to overcome your stated bias against Christians in general, if you were able to see the good parts and people involved, rather than just the bad - and perhaps in doing so, accept that it is often the people involved who have warped the teachings for their own agendas that are the real problem, not the belief in Christ (which to me, is the basis for Christianity) itself?

Doesn't mean you have to accept their beliefs in the least. Being able to come to a mutual respect for those ones who deserve it however, could be kinda nice. :)
