Actually, I decided to read the blog and this looks... scary! I think it might be real... I don't know. It might be the lack of sleep and non-English music getting to my head...

I've always wondered if there was a "cure" for homosexuality. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with homosexuality, and I am quite sure it is not a "choice". What I'm trying to say is, If a man or women realized that they were gay, and didn't want to be, would there be a way to , for lack of a better word, "cure" them?

And vice versa. Can a straight man or women be turned gay?

Does anybody know the physiological differences that make someone gay or straight? Is it a lack or over abundance of certain chemicals? Is it all psychological?

It's a pretty interesting thing to think about.

Well, it's believed (by some) that male homosexuality is caused by the inheritence of a gene, which, in women makes them more fertile and in men, makes them gay.

Pity. :(

WOuldn't it be great to manipulate sexual desire with a pill? Just think of the prank possibilities! You can slip your buddy a 'gay pill' and make sure you go home with that gorgeous redhead. Or... slip him a 'straight pill' and make sure you go home with that gorgeous redhead. ;)

"I don't know what happened, one minute I was watching this hot stripper shake her ass, and the next I was dancing to Cher and making out with a figure skater named Kurt!"

"I tell you what Janice...if you sleep with that chick, I'll buy you a goddamn Mercedes Benz. That would be worth a Benz for sure."

I think the more accepted belief is the mother's hormone levels affect fetal neurochemistry, due to Nazi and East German research that seemed to support this idea.
(God damn it I want to remember the title of the book that refered to this)

As I remember certain hormone levels affect males by suppressing attraction to women, or altering the function of the gland that controls sexual attraction. or some thing similar.

By the way this consisted of injecting hormones into pregnant women so fundementalists should not get their hopes up

It's a pretty interesting thing to think about.

It's been tried. The most effective therapy is still ongoing, and is extremely inefficient: Religion. During the 50s, 60s and 70s studies were done with electroconvulsive therapy and aversion therapy to attempt to get homosexual "patients", mostly men, to no longer feel sexual desire towards other men. As far as I'm aware this was never done to unwilling subjects. The success rate was very low, and the torturous nature of the treatment meant that many left a lot worse off than they came. Those who were "cured" (changed) did so on their own mental turf, not as a result of the psychological methods, usually by finding Jesus during treatment; a method which is still used today to "convert" homosexuals.

In follow-ups, many subjects were still engaging in homosexual intercourse, but many did so with a sense of grief and/or guilt due to the aversion therapy. A few had turned to abstaining completely, either scared away from the whole concept of sex by their treatment or afraid of their own desires. Suicide, while not common amongst ex-patients, was more frequent than the normal rate.

The attempts were monumentally unsuccessful, turning thousands of people into self-loathing shades mortally afraid of their own sexual desires. The therapy didn't get rid of the wants, it just made them afraid of them; unfortunately, while this may be a useful option with potentially violent patients, in this instance the damage done is far too great for the Pyrrhic reward gained in as few as 5% of cases.
