Osama bin Laden wants the United States to convert to Islam, ditch its constitution, abolish banks, jail homosexuals and sign the Kyoto climate change treaty.

The first complete collection of the Saudi's statements published today portrays a world in which Islam's enemies will take the first steps towards salvation by embracing the "religion of all the Prophets".

Alcohol and gambling would be barred and there would be an end to women's photos in newspapers or advertising.

Any woman serving "passengers, visitors and strangers", presumably anyone from air stewardesses to waitresses, would also be out of a job.

How progressive of him to support Kyoto... or is it just that he knows it will destroy Western Economies?

Which translates into less military and monetary aid to middle eastern regimes so his islamist followers can more easily overthrow them.

Maybe he has just kept up to date on current scientific thinking?

Just because the US has decided to place it's collective head in the sand on this issue, doesn't mean it is going to go away.

And... okay - so bin Ladin has some unpopular ideas (his policy on homosexuality, or the mass conversion to Islam, for example). That doesn't mean he can't slip the occasional GOOD idea in there...

The American political system is pretty much running on THAT situation, after all.

My theory is that he hired an image consultant and that consultant said something like this...

"Now we need to improve your image. There has been too much focus on the negative. If we are to improve the Osama brand, we need to focus more on that which will make the world view you in a much more positive manner. I say you adopt some issues, things that do not conflict with your 'convert to Islam or die' ideology, and slip them into your yearly 'Death to America' statements... It can't hurt..."

They may have signed it but did they ratified last I heard almost no countries had ratified it in their Legislatures. It's a huge thing here in Canada. Most people where I live don't want it to be ratified.

Thailand ratified it back in '02, Russia ratified it in '04 (see http://uk.news.yahoo.com/041118/325/f6vjn.html and http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3943727.stm) and as far as i can tell (i don't profess to being an expert in Kyoto) now its a legally binding thing on the UK and all the other signatories so they all have to start making cuts or face fines or something.

Hitler referances count.

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.

Oh yeah, and...

If a Usenet discussion mentions Godwin's law as a conterrebuttal to a mention of Hitler/Nazis, then the probability of Godwin's law being disputed is equal to 1.

Relevent how?

Is this thread not about the (arguably) good idea that an (arguably) bad figure has had?

In the scope of 'evil empires', and the positive effects of those regimes... it is hard NOT to have even passing references to Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.

Ah yes. Nazi scientists, who were basically ordered by Hitler to prove that smoking caused cancer.

I love the unbiased sources people like to point to for how 'good' it is that we ban cigarettes.

Hitler may have done "one good thing" but knocking away one minor freedom just because he personally thought cigarettes were bad is not it.

Excuse me for throwing in my two cents :gundge:
But explain to me how exactly what are the Benefits of smoking?

i.e. people often more cite the 'cigarettes cause cancer' argument from FACT. What about the modern scientists who find the same thing? Are they Nazis ordered by the Fuerer?;)

Excuse me for throwing in my two cents :gundge:
But explain to me how exactly what are the Benefits of smoking?

How exactly is that relevant to anything? What are the benefits from posting on NationStates.net?

What about the modern scientists who find the same thing?

Well, which scientists? and what findings?

We could dissect how many government funded studies are actually biased, unscientific, and misleading. Like that one U.S. National Institutes of Health bit that John Pauly researched which purported to show how cigarettes cause lung cancer. Actually he wanted to show that pieces of cigarette filters are what cause lung cancer. He successfully showed that pieces of cigarette filters can get inhaled using mice. Unfortunately not a single one of the mice got lung cancer! The study essentially "proved" that inhaling tar-soaked bits of cigarette filters causes absolutely no harm to mice.

But that didnt stop a bunch of idiots - the Wall Street Journal, and most anti-smoking organizations - from hailing it as a groundbreaking study proving for once and all what our old friend Adolf already knew - cigarettes are unhealthful to the point that they should be criminalized.

Anyway, this is all a bit of a thread hijack is it not?
