A little fear of falling...

Ok, yesterday I had to chase a mouse around the kitchen with a broom, while two girls stood on the sideboard and screamed. I do not like rodents (except for hamsters) - they are filthy scum - but I'm not scared of them, other than being scared of getting diseases, maybe. These girls were terrified, to the point that this furry little three inch thing must have seemed like some gargantuan monster to them. (Anyone taking that sentence out of context will be slapped.)

It got me thinking that I don't really have any phobias, that I know of, at least. Don't mind spiders, snakes, dogs, or birds. I don't mind hates. I've never had a bad trip. I don't fret about global warming or MAD or a third term. Yet I get scared, easily: I'm a little pussy when it comes to people jumping out and shouting, "Booh". And people who pretend to be ill/injured scare the living shit out of me. So I don't think that having phobias is linked to being 'unscarable'.

Anyway, what phobias/fears do you have?

awww you spoiled my fun :p

yeah i used to be scared shitless of bees and wasps. now i tolerate them if i'm outside (rather than running away like a big sissy), but if there's one in the same room as me i'll usually leave the room (hastily) till it goes away :(

mild vertigo - i'm fine with most things now (looking down from the top of the empire state for example) but i used to be worse (wouldn't go all the way up the statue of liberty... but the stairs were swaying violently and that would be enough to put anyone off!)

I have a strangely unreasonable fear of having my genitals ripped out by rabid vultures while I lie tied with barbed wire to a cactus. Never knew why. :)

I dont like vermin either. Our neighborhood is infested with destructive, flea ridden squirells that shit and piss all over everything and chew through garbage and recycling cans, as well as phone lines.
I kill two or three a week with a short length of 2 X 4.

I'm not afraid of them. I dont think I have any phobias.
I wouldnt want a tarantula on my face or a clown anywhere near me.
I'm reasonably well prepared for any natural disasters-or other, for that matter.
As for people jumping out and yelling "Boo!"- I'm not afraid, but my reflexive action would likely be a jaw breaking right hook.

Great. Now I do too...

Other than that though, I'm phobia-free. For now. We'll wait and see. I'm sure I'll stumble across something eventually.

I've pretty well gotten over all my irrational fears and If I feel them coming back I feel suppression is the best option.

I fear being in a confined space with a moth. If I'm outdoors with a moth (or many moths) I'm totally okay, though. How's that for irrational?

In terms of more conventional phobias, crowds (of the help-I-can't-breathe-because-they're-crushing-me variety) and spiders.

I can't possibly explain why, but I dread cockroaches.. I was really surprised about it as well. I mean, I'm not scared of any other crittersd I've ever come across. In fact, other than a mild hight anxeity, I'm a quite rational bloke & don't much mind anything.

Thankfully I rarely run into any, but it's damn odd.

since I have an anxiety disorder my phobias don't make a lot of sense to people, like today, I have to go to the walmart, I am pretty worried about that.

I am not afraid of spiders, or misc bugs, I do have a problem with crickets and grasshoppers (because they jump) I don't like mice, scared of getting bit.

I am terrified of the pit bull next door, but he is mean, so that makes sense.

mostly I am afraid of being in a situation that I can't control. (being incapacitated, knocked out, pinned in my car after if crashes, ect.)

I have a mild fear of heights, but only when I'm in a position where I could fall. And it has to be fairly high - 50 metres or so. Doesn't matter if there's actually a danger I could fall - for example, I'll still be apprehensive even if there's a strong guard rail in front of a cliff or something like that.

Mould, the stuff that grows on bread and other old food. That stuff scares me.

Okay, first I must state that I have an olive colour skin. Okay? So I was in this museum in NYC and we were looking at this fake tomb thing. So my parents drag me inside and I'm like 'What the hell, this is so boring!', so I go inside. Looking at the pretty Egyptian art on the wall was nice, but then they dragged me into this room about the size of my walk in closet... Before that, I wasn't scared of anything. I could probably stand infront of a murderer with a loaded gun and ask him how his day was going. Anyways, I don't know if this happens to any of you, but I'm standing there, surrounded by 12 other people, and I feel panic rising up in my chest. So I try and get out of said itsy bitsy room, but I can't, because there were these burly guys behind me. Turns out my parents got a picture of it. >< If it was digital, I'd show you, but it's not.

Anyways, I'm obviously claustrophobic, and I have a slight arachno(I?)phobia, and a fear of being pecked to death by a chicken.

i get something like that, but not from claustrophobia, but from a mild case of social anxiety disorder. sometimes i just freak out when i'm around other people... just being in the same room or (worse) talking to other people, even people i've known for years, can get me freaked out. its not scared per se, its just panic... can't really explain it, but walking down the street is sometimes hard (especially at uni) and often supermarkets too :(

I don't really have a phobia of anything, I don't think. I love standing right on the edge of very tall things and looking down. You see everything differently.

I'm not afraid of rodents because I used to breed "fancy" rats, quite different from the typical vermin and rather fun pets. I did have to deal with a mouse infestation and in one of my more sadistic moments armed myself with spatula and bar-b-que fork to take them out, but I was never afraid of them. I am claustrophobic, I can't even sleep with the blanket over my head without feeling like I can't breathe. I'm terrified of water as in the ocean and lakes because I hate not knowing what's under the water. I will run around like an idiot and scream if a bee or wasp lands on me. I'm not too terrified of spiders as they usually end up dead when they come near me.

Same, It trips me up at classes mainly. I'll be walking down a narrow hallway and like 10 people will come down and a panic just "rises "..:(

I dont like snakes, I cut off their heads and the tails still move - thats not right.I also dont like heights but I'm not terrified, and rats - not mice - freak me out but I dont like shriek and stuff - I just leave v. quickly.
