10 Reasons Atheism Is Stupid

Osutoria-Hangarii

In response to the multitude of threads pretending to be prompts for enlightened discussion but which are really invitations for atheists to hold a circle-jerk, I present you all with the following reasons why atheism is stupid. I invite any atheist to spin their wheels in an attempt to reconcile their beliefs with the following:

1. I'm not going to go to the trouble of trying to denigrate atheists. Instead, I want to ask a question. How do you honestly think a thread of this kind would be received?

Why? What kind of posts would you predict? That is, if I had actually put some reasons there, legitimate or not.

The main reason is because it's never a bad idea to hedge your bets. If you're going to be a good person anyway, you might as well pretend it's because some beard in the sky told you to on the off chance you actually will get a better afterlife.

Doesn't work. It's impossible to really believe something solely because it's safer than not. It's like me demanding you believe deep in your heart that global warming is not occurring, or else I will beat you with a belt for hours

On the NS forums, it appears it's necessary for Christianity to be dragged through the mud, spat on, and stomped on. It's not enough to argue about its effects or intent, but the necessity is to insult billions. Pisses me off to no end. :/

Unharnessed? I'm willing to bet that Christians don't get stopped in the streets by an evangelising Atheist and called an 'evil sinner'. What they get in these forums is at least equal to what we get in real life, and atheists get it on the forum just as much. I don't agree with either side doing it, but if you all insist on continually bickering on this forum, then that's what you get.

If the atheists doing it here get on your nerves, just ignore them, like I have to do when the Christians do it, both on the forum and in reality.

If you find it depressing then leave those threads alone. Plenty of other stuff on the forum.

Two of the posters I respect the most here, are Christians. Not only that, but they're Christians constantly arguing about Christianity with other Christians. Oddly these two (Demp & Jocabia) have no problems accepting neither science or other people's right to live how they see fit.

See, I don't agree with your claim at all. I occationally see people yell "Purge the world of stupid religion!" and such shit, but that's absolutely not what's usually going on.
It's almost always a case of people taking the Bible literal & trying to smack someone over the head with it.

Do you think it's less insulting to an atheist, or a follower of a non-Christian faith, when Pat Robertson wannabes conclude it's impossible for the lot of us to have any sort of moral standard, decency or common sense?

Do you imagine it appears less than mindblowingly insane when literalists claim the Earth is 6000 years old, and presentday science is a false god?

Do you for one second believe it doesn't severely piss off human rights proponents when evangelicals takes the concept of sin & turns it into a personal insult levelled at them?

Oh whatever... You misunderstand that most of the atheists on here - and at least a handful of Christians - don't mind Christianity at all. The religion itself isn't what's causing all the fights. It's a few born-again's.

I'm just not interested in breaking them down. This probably comes off as an attempt to be "holier than thou," but the real reason is that I'd rather do most anything than concentrate on putting down a group of people of which I've been a member. Mostly, I'd rather skeet and sleep. :)

Is it so important to try and ruin the source of stability in so many peoples' lives in order to argue that your own worldview is superior? :(

I'm not christian but my grandparents are and I'd never want to ruin this stability and help, but the problem with religions (all of them in differents degrees) is that they are telling a TRUTH, and when something is TRUE, at the end, they try to become from a pesonal believe into a general rule, and I'm not going to accept that something based in faith will become into a law, like fighting against AIDS with chastity and not condoms. That's criminal!:headbang:

"Atheism" may or may not be stupid, but it suffers from a ball-less name, so to speak.

Seriously, if we were to compare the phonemes of "Atheism" to, say, "Judaism", we'd find that the latter tends to be more authoritative to say. That being judged by how hard each phoneme is, or, in other words, how often and with what force the tongue touches the roof of the mouth or the lips.

/ay/, a vowel, categorically separates the tongue from the roof of the mouth. /th/ involves the blowing of air between the tongue and the roof of the mouth (while the tongue is crouched near the front of the mouth, possibly momentarily touching the teeth), thus us a softer than other consonant sounds. Again, /ee/ and /ih/ can both be thrown out for the tongue mashing anything. /s/ involves, like /th/ the blowing of air, though it can be with or without the tongue (some pronounce their s's by blowing between teeth or lips)--and when it is with tongue, it is placed further backward than in /th/ without touching the teeth. Then /m/ involves closed and opened lips. No tongue is touching anything.

Nowhere in the word, except with the possibility of /th/ when the tongue is placed forward enough to be touching the teeth--are we able to mash anything in our mouth with a phoneme in the word (though the /th/ touching is hardly a hard touch, as the tongue is moving forward to backward, not its strong suit). That might seem menial, but the feeling of saying a word is actually a large part of if people like a word, and because the tongue is the strongest muscle involved in speech, and we tend to metaphorically consider it enforcing our words. "Judaism", on the other hand has hard or semi-hard /j/ and /d/ phonemes, with which we can assert ourselves or our religious convictions in the word.

So while it may or may not be "stupid", atheism suffers from a non-assertive name, the way I look at it.
