Why I can't hate USians

Sinuhue

Well, a big reason is NS. Seriously. Now, I always SAID I didn't hate Americans, I hated their government, but really, I hated Americans. I admit it. Now I can't. Too many of you are pretty reasonable people. Then again, some of you are complete nutcases...but you're balanced out by the nutcases of other national origins. I am no more likely to agree with a Canadian than I am with a person from the US, or anywhere else. This makes me sad, because now I can't blame everything on you bastards. Well, I can, but my heart isn't in it anymore:(

As a USian, let me ask you a question. Do you view people of mid-eastern, Asian, South American, or any other part of the world as nutcases because they don't think or believe as you do, or do you recognize and respect that their culture is different? Why is it so hard to understand that the US has its own unique culture? You study to understand the dynamics of other cultures, but not the US. Why is that?

Exactly... same standards.

"USians" do not like being judged by the acts of the whack-job who managed to weezle his way into the white house anymore than UKians, Canadians and Australians would over their Prime Ministers...

I think the last two elections showed that damn near 1/2 the country is not pleased with the present placement of power in the United States... And I've a feeling the next election is going to show even more dis-satisfaction.

George Bush is just as representative of every US citizen, as Tony Blair is of every UK citizen.

A lot of us hate our government right now just as much as Sin does! About 50% hated the current administration enough to try and change it (unfortunately unsuccessfully) and he's only got about a 36% approval rating right now...

And we can't change Congress much for another year, so we'll see what happens then....

You tend to have more friction with cultures/idea/etc. that are only slightly different from your own. The people who are very different are so different that you often can't really argue with them. The people who are only slightly different offer all sorts of areas for conflict....

The the major thing that it has taught me is that people only appreciate your point of view if it happens to reinforce there own.

You need to learn the eternal value of quotes.

You'll see me use terms in responding back to others, such as "USian", "christian", "liberal"... It allows one the liberty to assert the tag the other assigns to some idea, without actually incorporating that tag as part of your own ideology.

It serves as a wake up call to many Americans which have become complacent and fail to realize that things change, even friends and allys. Yourself, along with a few other Canadians who spend most of their time bashing the US in one way or another are doing many young people a great favor in exposing the true sentiments of our northern neighbors. It certainly appears to be working well. In fact, so well that for the first time in many many decades the majority (52%) of Americans no longer feel that Canada is even a close ally to the US. That represents a drop over the past 3 or 4 years of around 25% which is truely amazing. I say congratulations and thank you very much. No, you miss the point; it's throwing their terms back at them...

I don't reffer to myself using the term 'USian', however, I will say "USian" reffering to myself to one who just used the term. The quotes as part of the term... Just as I would place any other word of questionable use in quotations when reffering back to the people in use...

It's a way of voicing discontent with the word, without making such a big deal about it.

If you were trying to hide it, I am sorry but it was apparent. You know better than I which posts you make in contempt of us. Personally I wouldn't be inclinded to search for them as I don't consider them as important as the overall dislike that they convey.
I did not misread your OP. I read it, and understood exactly what you said, however, I do not believe it. I believe you may not feel that hatred at the moment, but I believe it is very much still alive within you. If I am wrong, I will certainly apologize, but it will take time to tell.

It is something that without forums such as this they would never realize. I sincerely salute you.
