Did any of you ever have an imaginary friend?

Was it a boy, girl or something completely different? What was its name?
I got some time to think yesterday (as our broadband was gone ;) ) and I remembered my childhood. Not very many happy memories all in all, but I did remember the imaginary friend I had.
The slightly unusual thing about her was that I never projected her as a different person, someone to keep me company or to play with, but rather as a very different side of myself. She always was very much a Fantasy-character, but she clearly was the stronger part of the two of us. In a way, I think she was a form of protection I derived for myself, and it did work to some extend.
I'm never quite sure how close I came to becoming a split personality due to the events and my reaction to them, but I'm pretty certain I never did, and my other half never actually took over ;)
She went away when I was no longer in need of protection, or rather, she merged back into my own personality.
So, what about you? Any interesting imaginary characters out there? Did they go away when you grew up or are they still waiting for you at home?
Not an imaginary friend per se, but my basement contained whatever I wanted it to.

Sorry couldn't pass it up :)

Imaginary friend? No. I always wanted one just so I had something to talk about with my psychiatrist in the years to come, but I was too self-conscious even then to go around talking to my imagination.
My brother had an imaginary friend called Ron. It used to annoy the hell out of me, primarily because imaginary friends were "in" then and I got the feeling he didn't believe in it either...

I had two imaginary older female friends and an imaginary dog. Others came and went, but those three were constant.
I had a really lonely childhood and spent a lot of time isolated from... well, just about anyone. Basically I created imaginary older sisters who actually paid me attention and a dog that slew my foes and devoured them messily. Man, that dog was tired in the evenings.
One night when I was about twelve I decided that they were only making people think I was even weirder, so I forced them out of my mind. I actually cried.

Raised only child.
Bored sometimes.
No imaginary friends.
Played in sandboxes and with people.
No, though I do tend to laugh at my own misfortune quite often. What this has to do with the topic in question is beyond me.

i've always had a pretty vivid imagination, so i didn't have one imaginary friend, but many. none of them were permament (staying for much more than a few days or a week), and they weren't borne (particularly) out of need or personality, just imagination. thinking back on it, its probably best to think of them as characters in a novel - thats what i did; acted out imaginary and continually evolving novels to myself (and with one of my real friends sometimes)
i spent much of my childhood stuck in an office... very bored :p
of course that could well be normal, but its my experience anyhoo :)

If I were to give the customary smartass answer, it would be that I am my own imaginary friend. ;)
However, I'll pass on that for now, because while I never had an imaginary friend, I do have an interesting story about my little sister's imaginary friend. She had built up quite an extensive amount of details about her imaginary friend "Chrissy", to the point that we all felt a bit like Chrissy was part of the family.
But, as inevitably happens, my little sister outgrew the need for an imaginary friend, and stopped talking about her. Most of the family was content to just let Chrissy go to the great imaginary hereafter. However, my oldest sister was away at college at the time, and so was unaware that Chrissy was no longer "around". So when she came home on spring break, she politely asked my little sister how Chrissy was doing. Little sis gave big sis an extremely evil glare and said, "Chrissy died!"
Yes, my little sister killed off her imaginary friend. Kind of disturbing when you think about it.

No, but all of my firearms have names.
I never had an imaginary friend per se...but I had (wait, I still have) a wild imagination. You know the movie Toy Story? Well when I was a kid I really believed my toys were alive, and cavorted about when I wasn't looking. I spent hours imploring them to let me in on their secret. I was convinced, long into my pre-pubescent years that they were alive.
For that amount of time, I also always had the feeling that I was being watched. Not in any creepy way, just being looked out for. I don't remember when I stopped feeling that...maybe when I turned about 15 or so, but I notice it now because of the absence of that feeling. It didn't matter if I was outside, inside, or what...something was watching me.
Not creepy. I kind of miss it actually.

heh i used to think that too :P
except it extended to other things sometimes, too... like traffic cones (i used to swear they'd have parties when no-one was looking, no kidding), and i used to apologise to things like the fridge if i closed the door too quick cos i thought it had feelings.
probably why i poured apple juice down the back of the telly - it looked hot! *is embarassed to this day*

My eldest seems to have as active imagination (if not more) than I did as a child. She has a whole host of imaginary friends...Spider (who bites her, and then my daughter gets into fights with him and send him to his room), Beetlejuice (she's been watching that movie non-stop since Halloween), and various bunnies and babies that she carries around with her. Thing is, I really think she can 'see' these things, because she'll hand you a little baby (I think it must be the size of your thumb) and you'll put it in your coat pocket or something, and then an hour later, she'll come rooting around in your pocket to get the baby back. The invisible, imaginary baby. I wish I had a memory like that!

I know, my two year old goes a little overboard sometimes, I stuffed her "fu-fu" (he's a bunny) in her diaper bag once, and she freaked out because he "couldn't breathe" I had to pull him out for her to give him cpr and then when I put him back in I had to stick his head out.

Tch, yu people all think so small :p my imaginary friend was a freakin' sheep baby, who could talk and everything, and styled his hair and was awesomely cool. He was called Lambkin. My dad used to tell me awesome stories about our adventures together (me and Lambkin, not me and my dad lol) while we were climbing mountains. (That's kinda where he came from actually - there are a whole lotta sheep in the Lake District).
I can't actually remember whether I really believed he was real. I don't think I did, but then I did used to get pissed off when my brothers had a go at him.

I've come to suspect most every child with an over-active imagination did that. The first time I remember doing it it was Sonic the hedgehog, but later on it kinda morphed into a three legged starfish sort of thing that swung around using it's legs/tentacles. It sure had some crazy lamp-post jumping adventures... :p

actually she is not, if she was speaking in tounges I could mistake her for being pentacostal before I thought she was posessed, but anyway, if I understand correctly if she was posessed she would be speaking a language she never learned or been around before.
