Which current female politician would be the best choice to represent the U.S. as the first woman president? Give reasons other than party affiliation. Poll coming.

edit: Further Clarification- this is NOT a who will be a presidential candidate in 2008 poll/thread. This is about what woman politician(s) would be a good choice for president.

Clinton has the best chance. As for best choice, well, that's a matter of taste.

Hillary does have the best chance, although I still think we'd crush her.. but that wasn't the question. Of that list, I'd pick "none of the above.." Seriously, Elisabeth Dole? She's not even on anyone's top 100 list.. anyone serious, that is. I guess we could run Condi Rice, depending on how things go.. Democrats would try and saddle her with full responsibility for the war in Iraq, so depending on whether or not we've stabilized Iraq by '08, she may have a shot.. I'm still goin' with Jeb though, no contest.

She was a hot lesbo 20 years ago. Now she's just a California state senator

Elizabeth Dole has the best chance. My vote will go for her.

Condi isn't even popular among Republicans. Or african americans. And the RP isn't going to run an african american candidate. Unless it was Powell. It's just NOT going to happen. I picked Dole because she was considered one of the "finalists" for VP before Bush settled on Chaney, and because she is "relatively" scandal free and a senator. I wanted to put Christy Whitman, but that whole 9/11 scandal makes her very unlikely.

Oprah could run either Dem or Independent, and she'd probably win, with her popularity ratings. Depends on who she could get as her advisers, and whether she could convince people that her lack of experience doesn't matter.

I didn't vote for any of them, here's why:

Hillary Clinton - Remember what Bill did when he was Prez? hint hint :D
Elizabeth Dole - I had enough of republicans already. Ick.
Carla Howell - Who the hell is she?

I really don't know why you'd say we'd never run a black candidate.. but I won't dig into that - it's not important. In any case, Rice has some appeal, although like I said, my money's on Jeb.

Carla Howell - Who the hell is she?

Isn't that the standard "comeback" for any libertarian candidate?

She almost got the Massachusetts state income tax repealed...something like 45% of the vote. Which is something in the "king of big government state".

Of the three, Clinton easily. The Libertarians, hopefully, have no chance of winning a presidential election anytime soon, and I don't think the Republicans are ready to trot out a female candidate anytime soon.

The question is immaterial, I think; candidates should be voted for based on their qualifications and politics, not their sex or race; if Rice ran in 2008, I'd do everything in my power to campaign against her, despite the fact that she'd be both the first woman and the first black person to be President; such novelty isn't worth screwing over the nation.

The question is not immaterial- you should try reading it. It is "who would be the best choice..." not "we must pick a woman, so pick somebody". I am asking who among women politicians would be the best choice for president. You know, qualifications, abilities, things like that...

Oops- I thought the question was, "Who will be the first female President?" You know, like the title of the thread. My mistake. Sticking with my answer, though.

*sigh*
The title of the thread is a reference to the TV show. After watching it for the last few weeks, I got to thinking...who would be good at the helm?

I think Condi running as VP could destroy the Democrats in key Northern states. Can anyone say moderate black and women voter blocks? Can anyone say the husbands of moderate women? Can anyone say liberal men looking for a women President?

I don't think any on the poll are qualifed female canidates. The only female canidate I'd vote for is retiring judge Sandra Day O'Conner. I'm to sick of damned politicans to vote one based on her pair of tits which is basically what this thread amounts to.

You mean the sort of people who think that Michael Moore checks his facts? I can't see them voting for any of Bush's clique, regardless of colouring or gender.
Mind you, I didn't think anybody would vote for the chimp a second time, either...

Kathleen Sebelius---Governor of Kansas

Considered one of the best governors in the US. Not easy for a Democrat in Kansas.

Janet Napolitano--Governor of Arizona

Both on TIME magazine 5 best governor list. Most good presidents are governors.

Condi wouldn't gather anything. She is obviously a Bush mouthpiece, and that totally blows her game forever. Liberals wouldn't vote her for those reasons. She would only appeal to black conservative groups, and they would be voting Republican anyway. They might as well run silver-back gorilla for VP - same results.

I'd probably vote for Olympia Snowe (R-Maine). She and Susan Collins (R-Maine) both voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment and she spoke out very eloquently against the amendment.

How is Condi not on this list?

Because
1. no matter what party-line republicans think, Condi will NOT get them the black vote.
2. even though she shows amazing support from some republicans, the party leadership recognizes that they will alienate the rural white vote, their bread and butter.
3. you must at least have a tiny bit of charisma to be president, and (not meaning to be mean, just telling the truth) she is WAY to gross looking.
4. she is firmly in the Bush camp, which will work against her with the moderate voters.
5. I don't like her at all, so I wanted to put someone else as the republican option. I already explained why I chose Dole, even though I would rather have chosen Christy Whitman.

Last time, seriously...please read the thread before posting. I know the whole 3 pages is too much for some people.
