Another Day in Darfur...

More crunchy United Nations goodness...

It looks as if the realists have won the day in the matter of Darfur. Or, to phrase it in another way, it looks as if the ethnic cleansers of that province have made good use of the "negotiation" and "mediation" period to complete their self-appointed task. As my friend Johann Hari put it recently in the London Independent: "At last, some good news from Darfur: the genocide in western Sudan is nearly over. There's only one problem—it's drawing to an end only because there are no black people left to cleanse or kill."

Kofi Annan don't care about black people

Most NS General posters care more about what Americans are doing in Iraq than what Sudanese are doing in Darfur.

It's ok to kill hundreds of thousands of people as long as it isn't the Americans doing it.

Seems that way, but can you blame them? Nobody seems to care about Darfur. I wrote to my congressman about it in hopes he'd bring it before congress. I got a form letter back that basically said everything I didn't want to hear. It gave the impression that they were going to wait and see instead of at least threatening some action.

Yeah, fuck that shit. Who wants to hear about organized rape and the extermination of a culture if it doesn't advance one's political agenda?

He doesn't care about himself either. Kofi is the only man known to have bitch-slapped himself after requesting that he could have a pay raise.

Is America the only western nation with a military? Or just the only western nation with a useful one?

We've played world police for the better part of a century, someone else can step up once in a while if it's that damn important. Just because it's not right doesn't make it our responsibility to correct it. We don't belong in Darfur for the same reasons we don't belong in Iraq -- no imminent threat and no UN mandate.

You don't even want to know what he almost did to himself when he found out he was married to a white woman.

The only nation with the credible ability to project a major amount of force to any spot on the globe. Other Western nations have militaries, but no real ability to invade to enforce something.

You've played World Police eh? More like GTA:The World.

And no-one gives a shit about Darfur because it's Rwanda all over again and the media doesn't keep telling us what's going on so we get bored and drift away.

You don't even want to know what he almost did to himself when he found out he was married to a white woman.
And when it got to trial, he just laughed at himself and said: "You can't touch me, ******! I'm Kofi Annan, I run the UN!" Then he spat in his own face, had his lawyers intimidate each other, and got the charges dismissed.
There is just no justice for the Black man in a world run by Kofi.

Send in Peacekeepers in Darfur but unless they are given the authority to restore order as well as keep the peace, this will not stop the violence.

I think that's the idea - the only way that the Sudanese government would go along with the idea of peacekeepers.

I think that's the idea - the only way that the Sudanese government would go along with the idea of peacekeepers. Indeed. I hate the world now. Most people have no right to complain if their family is being slaughtered, because they're not willing to do anything about others. Not that many can, but most people just don't care.

[EDIT/] WTF is with the UN finding it not to be genocide? It was obviously genocide, in that it was an attempt to destroy a race (hence the organised rape).

It's because the UN is not some Council of the Wise. It's a backroom where countries grandstand in their own interest.

Precisely because it was designed to be impotent, and precisely because every member nation is by definition an "interested party" to any conflict (since it represents precedence), it was, is, and will continue to be an organization that can only disappoint.

Anyway, our culture values equality and the lives of innocent civilians. Our culture, therefore, compels us to protect the people of Darfur who are being raped and exterminated just because of the color of their skin.

It really comes down to a sense of willingness to do something. And as long as most nations can freeride off the USA's influence and military might well they aren't going to do anything which jepardize's their standard of living.

We need to just fucking start a fund, and go the fuck down there ourselves. I'll personally fucking kill every single one of them that I get a chance to! I swear on my life, if I had the funding, I'd go be the person that all the liberals on here dtest about me. Still think torture is wrong? I'll do those motherfuckers for no reason. If we had more help in Iraq right now, I'm sure we'd be more than willing to send down a Battalion of Marines. But we're a little busy finishing up from our last Genocidal Dictator removal process.

Ask France and Germany, I hear they have extras.

On second thought, you might as well just leave them and let the U.N. handle it. According to some people, saving people from Genocide isn't worth fighting for, because it might cause the locals to get mad at us, and start killing people. Besides, do we REALLY know for sure if it's actually happening?

Intelligence isn't alway right, ya know!

And I for one am sick of my President being called a liar, which would most certainly happen for one reason or another.
