LIST price: $995.00
USED price: $2.31
Plus $3.50 or so shipping.
It's a collection of 100+ books from Adam Smith to Plato that are part of the "Great Books of the Western World" collection.
Can those USED prices actually be for real? Will they charge me a ton for shipping all of those books? Is it a trick?
Any advice from knowledgeable Amazon buyers would be helpful.

I bought used software at ridiculously low prices through Amazon. It's not a scam. Amazon stands by the dealers they are representing in this way, and those companies have already demonstrated to Amazon their willingness to provide good service.
Notice that "Your purchase benefits Orange County Literacy Council". It's like getting books cheap that the library discards.

I've always gotten exactly what I paid for from Amazon, but I always ordered only one book or CD at a time, not a collection of like a thousand.

If you have doubts or questions, just click on the vendor's name and send them an e-mail asking about it.

Willamena, Drunk Commies, thanks for the comments.
I acknowledge that Amazon will have good deals where they charge 1 cent for a great book and then make a bit on shipping, but.. 517 books for $2.31? I kind of feel like I've been living under a rock then, if this is a legitimate deal.
Any other opinions?
Other than the delivery estimate Amazon is always on the level in my experience.
I'd go for it before edit: 182 people beat you to it, it's a fantastic offer. I mean the actual collection (not the USED offer, that's definitely bullshit). Sell an organ if you're short of cash.

It's 517 classics, but only 60 books. ;)

Make sure that you get the whole collection and not a single book out of it for the price. Which is what i would find more likely.

This is one of the reviews, that I fear would be the case if I bought something like this:
My in-laws bought this set for the family, but they never really got past Plato. The books sat on the shelf holding up an ideal. Recently, my mother-in-law decided to pass them on to us. I've begun studying them, and I found the set accessible and intriguing. The first book, The Great Conversation, encourages the late bloomer. I am determined that my children will make good use of grandma and grandpa's old books, sometimes good ideas just need time and good faith.

You can get all these books and more for free at your Municipal libary, or order them from the BL or state libary depending on where you are. But I grant you it is a pain returning them but a lot less of a pain then buying them. Unless you want them not to read but to hold them, pipe in hand and stare intelectually out of a window when friends come round.

These prices below are likely just a single Book...down at the end of the list i found this for $6.
Quantity1/Vol 37 Gibbon. HC Book is new/shrink wrap. Other "Great Books" available are #14,22,23,31,32,33,37,40, 41,42,44,45,52,53,58,59.
See only Vol 37 not all the books.

You forgot that you also have to have a glass of brandy sitting on the table next to you.

I'd be weary and check out the seller well. I have had several problems with Amazon.com affiliate dealers. The worst of them was when I was trying to order a pair of rare, small run, never-released-in-the-US albums by a rather obscure band. The seller, instead of being a record store in Finnland (where the CD was originally released), turned out to be a bootlegger in the Czech Republic who tried to take my $50 and give me two home-made greenback dubs with inkjet stickers. Whats worse, they were both THE SAME CD with different stickers. Be careful.
I can say, however, that Amazon worked quickly to get me my money back, despite a refusal of the seller to refund or fix my order.
