Islamic courts have found Western and Indian films to be immoral, and have sent troops to shut down theaters and video stores. Local militias, who appear to be movie fans, have fought back. Civilians have died. Apparently killing kids is much more moral than renting out a copy of American Pie.

Silly, everyone knows you don't grow food, a big UN transport plane or ship just shows up and delivers the stuff!

Or we could cut a comprimise where they cannibalize their victims. At least then they are eating, and they still get to blow each other up. Everyone wins!

This doesn't surprise me really. I read Black Hawk Down and a bit more into that area, then got worried and stopped reading. That country is screwed up majorly.

It says alot about the place (seriously, it's not a country) that even al Qaida doesn't seem to want to set up bases there.

Al-Qaeda evidently sent advisors there at the same time the Rangers were there (just prior to the Mogadishu incident). They were the ones who told the Somalis how to modify an RPG to use it for aerial targets (modification have to be made to the launcher and to the warhead).

Yep. The article was more recent, but IIRC it was talking about major OP bases (al Afghanistan), but acknowledged there were representatives in country.

I say someone should put together a vast international "security & intelligence contractor’s corporation" to operate all over the world completely separate of any one nation’s authority and systematically go about dismantling these tin-pot dictatorships. Imagine a fresh, well organized and streamlined intelligence agency and a first rate, world class, technologically superior armed force completely separate from the bureaucratic stagnation and inefficiency of modern governments. Now THAT would get the job done no imperialistic strings attached!

Sure it would cost a lot but once all these assoholic régimes are gone industrial growth would be ripe, infrastructure would need to be built, resources would be highly available... mind-bogglingly rich investors would be chomping at the bit!
