This is the craziest thing I've seen in a long time. The Christian Right and Pro-Union Left have joined together to stage the largest protest since Vietnam. With Unions expecting a turn out of upwards of 500,000 nationwide.
This morning on The Today Show I had to forcably contain my ceral within the confines of my mouth as Anglican, Catholic & Unitiing Church leaders spoke alongside the AWU, ATWU & other union spokespersons.
It looks like when it comes to the rights of Australian workers to "have a fair go" at work, that petty ideologies don't get in the way...

Yeah its great to see that there are other Christians who don't think Christianity is the same thing as conservativism.
I think in the US the Christian right is becoming more vocal about its discontent with the Bush administration. Hopefully we can start seeing this kind of thing here as well (I did post an artical about evangelical groups speaking out against republicans for better environmental policy). Though unfortunately the US labor unions are more worried about liberal politics then they are about workers rights so this sort of pairing is unlikely here unless the unions can regain their focus.

What would be rarer and more impressive would be to see an Atheist Republican movement in the United States. For the sake of political diversity, I'd be for it.

There are plenty of atheist Republicans, though not an organized movement of them. Lots of people who don't believe in God still favor tax cuts and pro-business legislation. I have no doubt that some of them are quite willing to mouth the words of prayers and hymns in order to keep the Christian right-wingers off of them.
Still, though, if you're Republican and atheist, you ought to be honest and switch to the Libertarian party. (Not that all Libertarians are atheist - far from it - but at least atheism doesn't conflict with their ideology as much at it conflicts with Republican ideology.)
