Generally, I get them in my mouth and no one can see, and they're just a menace. You rub your tongue around in your mouth... then BAM you feel it. You just want to gnaw it off and make it go away... but it hurts so bad...
Well, I have one of those on my lips. Just a small one, kind of like a blister. But all the skin around it is different and it's annoying. I just want to kill myself. I better go get the gun...

First off, they're not caused by herpes. Second, salt 'em, and hydrogen pyroxide, or hold aspirin over them.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). There are two types of herpes simplex virus (HSV). HSV-1 usually leads to lip and mouth sores (herpes labialis), while HSV-2 most often leads to genital herpes. However, both virus types can cause cold sores or genital herpes if skin comes into contact with either type.

also, anbesol, medicated blistex, abreva, and valtrex all seem to work. Valtrex has recently been indicated by the FDA to reduce healing time with one dose
It's possible the one's IN the mouth are canker sores...dude, I hate those.
Rembrandt toothpaste makes a anti-canker sore formula which works pretty good.
Also, for the cold sores - Abreva all the way. The website usually has coupons that will get you a few bucks off since the medication is like $20 for a tiny little tube.
Those suckers are CONTAGIOUS as hell so be careful. If you touch the area wash your hands thoroughly afterward. My dad has them and managed to pass the stupid virus to everyone in our family.
