I hate the FCC

Now I know that every single reality TV show out there is just plain horrid. There is no sense debating that. There is one upcoming reality TV show that may actually have some potential though (Clicky (http://www.weeklyworldnews.com/features/sex/61282)). However the FCC would probably gut it in so many places and in so many ways that it too will fall in line with the rest of the reality TV shows out there. It is in cases like this where the FCC really pisses me off. They like to censor and make a big deal out of things that aren't really all that bad. My grand parents used to have cable TV but decided to get rid of it because they traveled a lot. Since they live close enough to the Canadian border they can get a Canadian station and I must say that some of the things I saw on that station the FCC would have a heart attack over. They show movies with sex scenes in them and leave the sex scenes in them. Now I'm not saying that Canadian are bad because of this. What I'm saying is that the FCC is way too uptight. What do the rest of you think about the FCC, this reality show, and pork rinds?

Your problem is with the People, not the FCC. The Communications Act of 1934 gave the airwaves to the people. The FCC just regulates the passing out of frequencies. When a station renews, the public is allowed to testify as to how the airwaves have been used. If there are no complaints, renewal is very routine. If there is an active protest, renewal can take years and many thousands of dollars. Sometimes the protestors are given the frequency.
So, if you had millions of $$ invested in a station and you needed to renew, would you keep your head down or see what you could get away with? Remember, all that equipment is basically trash without the frequency.

But it should be regulated by market pressures! If people don't want to see such things, then they don't have to tune in!

Well I tend to be conservative and I agree with you. They should be able to say or do whatever...if someone doesn't like it change the channel. There shouldn't be a limit in free speech just because it offends someone.

Very much so. But I overlooked the show in question to address the issue at heart.

The issue at heart is that it's the Weekly WORLD News, which has as much news in it as, say, a good midnight viewing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
EDIT: I'm lysdexic, so sue me.

Yeah, but while the show is fake and the WWN is fake, the issue is real.

Absolutely not. The main discussion here is about the FCC, and the article doesn't mention anything about the FCC. The article is there to give me an excuse to tell you all that I hate the FCC. Plus it gives an interesting side conversation. As do the Pork rinds. How come nobody has said anything about pork rinds yet?

LOL, how bloody stupid that 1934 Act is.
Please, in NZ we have BCL; that controls the air waves; it is run like a business; you got the cash, you get a frequency; simple as that.
Get the damn government out of business; if people wish to televise a 24/7 titty channel, then I say good on them - let them do it

Canadian TV stations have no morals. I love it. Who wouldn't love being able to watch lesbian sex at 7/10pm or a bunch of pot heads growing dope and breaking the law at 6/9pm.

And hey, if it brings in the cash for the shareholders, who gives a shit.
If parents don't want their children watching it, there is this wonderful 'off' button that they can use, or better still, they can REMOVE the television set all together from their home so that they're '100% smut free' - and shock horror, their child might actually learn the art of reading, imagination and conversation

The main problem with the FCC is that it runs under American opinions and ideals, where any sort of sexual activity is about 10 times worse than the most graphically violent act. The CRTC (Canadian Radio/Telecommunications Commision) lets sex on TV because we up here in Canada think that showing sex is more acceptable than showing a gang member shoot someone in the head at point blank range
Yeah, but while the show is fake and the WWN is fake, the issue is real.
Good point. But the FCC is still a fascist organization based on population thought and communication control.
