'Mornin', Fass! How u be? :)

I already have a spyware blocker, but everytime Jolt throws up one of those double-damned "Avenue A" programs the page stops loading and I have to hit "Refresh," and sometimes they throw the damned thing at me again! Grrrr! :headbang:

I've used that, FireFox (with adblock), and now Opera, all with Spybot S&D's teatimer thing running, never had a problem like I said. Eut, I'd wager it's the program you're usin', rather than the the spyware.

Maybe it's something on Eutrusca's computer then. It's probably still IE's fault that it's there in the first place though - remember kids, unprotected sex (software exchange) can spread viruses.

IE + Norton Internet Security = Das sweetness. No viruses, worst adware being tracking cookies, and no spyware. Subscription fees are buggers, but worth it in the end methinks. ;)

Additionally, Microsoft's Anti-Spyware program is surprisingly good. It caught stuff that Spybot did not, though I still use both, but I favor the MS resident over Spybot's.

Ick Symantec makes a good anti-virus but NIS blows
Not only is it rediculously system intensive it is idiodic in its spyware determinant

We see it kill all kinds of outlook ... web based outlook and other legit applications

Add to that the compleatly not intuitive settings editor and you get something that is bulky ... anoying ... and hard to coustimize (to reduce that anoyance factor)

There are many other lighter free utilities I would choose any day of the week

AS far as M$ anti spyware program I have to agree ... they did good by buying that utility off of someone else (it shows no way they would have made that usefull of tool origionaly by themselfs)

But all in all it has been valuable for spyware (and even more so for seting up the envyronment for a rootkit removal)

Somtimes yeah ... their corp editions are alright ... specialy when we can force a local update

But general retail I agree

Actualy if I had to pick an antivirus program I would use Trendmicro (they had their own but recently bought out pc-cillin)

Free .. AVG or avast (avast more latly)

I've got CA eTrust EZ-Antivirus on all my machines. Seems to work rather well with decently low resource overhead. My occasional use of a Standalone product never finds anything, so I'm satisfied. They have an "all in one" product, but I think mix-n-match may have a better kill rate.

I'm using firefox wtih ad block and I am having the same problem with spyware on Jolt. I am having problems on another British website as well, but I think that's a crazy server problem and not spyware since it keeps jumping from one server to another at random. But I have not had any problems with any other website.

People claim to not have problems if they use firefox. Why is firefox allowing this spyware through on mine. Did I miss an update or something.

I just got into Trendmicro by using their sysclean stand alone

Absolutly amazing

Its not an "easy" use (for standard users) but when we are cleaning machines it is wonderfull

And personaly I dont use much for anti-virus on my personal machines ... no real need when I am not running windows or mac and also know what to do to lock a *nix box down

Agreed. That's what I use as a standalone. I keep an updated copy on my thumb-drive. I also like their web-based "House Call". It might miss some embedded stuff, but it gets most everything else. That's what I tell people to do before I get there... ;)

If you're using Adblock, you have to use the Adblock G updater as well.

It's also good to use NoScript.

I have NO problems.

Yup most deffinatly used here (though housecall is not as usefull to us ... most of the viruses we see around here are network aware worms) and once our network detects the worm spread attempt they are cut off and shipped to a different subnetted vlan

As such they dont have internet connectivity lol but sysclean (along with some hand written aps like blacklist ) are invaluable

In fact besides displaying roughly the same content they dont really "do the same thing" at all

When I used IE, I always had to set it to not use ActiveX controls, and had to disable all scripting, and I used several different anti-spyware programs at the same time (plus a couple of hours of maintenance each night to constantly scrub the new spyware off the machine).

I run McAfee Anti-Spyware once a week - and I'm always clean - using Firefox with Adblock, Adblock G Updater, and NoScript.

Where as I have run acrost tones of IE issues

Though a lot of it is M$'s intigration into XP that pisses me off

Firefox an un-install and reinstall is always an option ... not so in the XP world they consider IE so integrated that it is not un-installable (using stock applications)

The only way to manage it is manual removal or IE-iradicator (or some other simmilar third party software)
It is a touchy process that sometimes manages to do way more harm then good

UpwardThrust: (sorry i can't be bothered to go back a page and quote), why would i need to uninstall IE when i'm perfectly happy with it?

Obviously Pure Metal never visits any dodgy sites, so the potential security risks of Internet Explorer don't matter. On the other hand, think of all the benefits you could get from Firefox, like... er... tabs and... er... well, there are dozens of entensions and themes (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox), so I'm sure there's somthing of interest for everyone - like the extension that adds a spellcheck option for every text box - none of that waiting for the website to implement its own spellcheck facilities.
