Heh, thoughts? Seems like we are moving along...slowly...but we are...in the whole grand scheme of things and all...

Heh, thoughts?
A phone call from London perhaps? This is really gonna help Blair after that anti-terror law defeat...

Seems like we are moving along...slowly...but we are...
You?
This is Britain. And I remain cynical...whoever becomes the next PotUS will still have to keep troops in Iraq, rest assured.

Well, you asked for thought, so here are mine:

1. Soverignty IS supposed to have been returned to the Iraqis. So they should have the right to tell outside military forces "thanks, it's time to leave, we can handle it now." I feel I need to mention that since your capitalization of FOR in the thread title makes me think you don't believe that.

2. Foreign troops do need to gradually leave Iraq, and the UK forces seem the logical choice. The U.S. forces greatly outnumber all others, so their withdrawal would change things too much, too quickly. The UK has the second largest force, so it would be seen as a sizable withdrawal, yet at the same time, not completely destabalize the country. And there is some specific hostility towards the UK troops in the Shia areas because of that whole arrest/breaking into the jail thing that we mysteriously stopped hearing about. (or maybe I just didn't watch the news the day it was resolved or something)

By my thread title, I meant what you meant. That they are exercising their right.

That's the problem with not being face-to-face with the people you are "talking" to. You can never be sure what their emphasis is or what it means. I read "Those ungrateful uppity Iraqi's are telling us to get out", when you said "the Iraqi's are standing up, taking control of their country and telling us we can back off, they got it now."

Tell me something--if this happens (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3600438.stm), what are the chances that Britain will pull its troops on its own, regardless of whether or not Iraq or the US is ready?

A point most of us forget. This is your "classic post", IMHO. Wicked posting, bro.
I love it when "Captain Obvious" has to save the day from naivete.
