Are these materials simply drugs that we have grown addicted to?

Perhaps 10,000 some years ago, we had the choice to eat food/drink water, and we grew engorged! Perhaps our bodies have evolved in response to this addiction! Hmm...

Is this going to turn into another one of those "ban hydrogen oxide" threads?

That is one of the greatest questions Ive ever heard before. Its true in a way, an addiction is a physical and mental need for the body and mind and food and water would fall under that catagory. I dont think it was ever an option though. Still, a great thread topic.

Can't be. No one high could ever consider NOT eating.

I'd say by the expanding waist line of the US and around the globe, I'd say some are becoming addicted to food.

Someone needs to do a grand bitch slap and remind people that food is just a fuel, not a lifestyle choice.

Physical dependence does not mean addiction. Addiction requires the psychological need to engage in an activity that causes harm to the addicted person. In this way, addiction is an irrational behavior. We are physically dependent on food and water, however, consuming food and water normally does not cause harm. Ergo, no addiction.

He didn't say that we have a choice about eating now, he just said that 10,000 years ago we had a choice in the matter. I can see a pot-head invisioning a time 10,000 years from now in which people have evolved to need marijuana for survival. Its like one of those things that's just, like, so out there, man.

Food is our fuel tho. I understand that some of us over indulge and food sometimes becomes a past time, but we do need to eat. We definatly need water! Most people don't drink enough water, they drink coffee, sodas etc.
