It is set in 1980s America, in some campus town.

Main characters are phyicists, called into a church to do some research on a glass vat of glowing green liquid which has been kept in a crypt for centuries by some monastic order with a dark secret.

The vessel start leaking, upwards onto the ceiling.

The town is gradually zombiefied, the researchers die one by one in sickening ways. Gradually it become clear that Satan is being summoned. As he attempts to enter our world through a mirror, the mirror is shattered.

But the nightmare continues.

What's this movie called? I thought it might have been a Quatermass Experiment variation, but I'm not sure.

Jesus, I've seen just about every 80's-90's B horror movie, and this gem isn't ringing a bell. Sorry.

It wasn't any of the Quatermasses.

It's called Prince of Darkness, I'm guessing. That's about a canister of liquid Satan hidden in the basement of a church or something.

Plot Summary for
Prince of Darkness (1987)

A sinister secret has been kept in the basement of an abandoned Los Angeles church for many years. With the death of a priest belonging to a mysterious sect, another priest opens the door to the basement and discovers a vat containing a green liquid. The priest contacts a group of physics graduate students to investigate it. Unfortunately, they discover that the liquid contains the essence of Satan himself, and they also discover that he will release HIS father - an all-powerful Anti-God! The liquid later comes to life itself, turning some of the students into zombies as the Devil comes forward to release his father. Will these students be able to stop him?

That summary was vastly inferior, and obviously written about a completely different movie, this is the story:

The son of the Devil has been kept captive by the church for thousands of years. Now he is breading free. It is up to a bunch of collage students to find a way to stop him.

The entire movie is just a light hearted family comedy about the Anti-Christ having a bake sale to raise enough money to get his father out of Hell.

Well looks like the name was found. I remember seing that thing on sci-fi once, and it seemed like something MST3K would do a show on.

I really think you and I were watching different movies:p

I don't claim to be an expert though, I know a lot more about horror B movies from the drive-in era than I do the 80's

Me, and the summarizer I quoted, were probably thinking about Prince of Darkness 2: Electric Boogaloo, which took a completely different direction slightly different view of the apocalypse then the first one.

Sir, are you trying to insinuate that B movie horror script writers are less than original?

I resent that comment!

Damn, they used Electric Boogaloo...that forces anyone who hears it to go see it regardless of quality!

Of course not, and anyone who points out the fact there have been about 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,001 movies about zombie apocalypses is just bitter that people haven't written movie after movie about them personally destroying the world.

Okay, here's one I've been trying to get a name for:

Set in the present day (1960s) on an island off the coast of England, a small community is terrorized by mutated cancer cells that grow to huge proportions and make boneless blobs of their victims. Ends with villagers seeking refuge from rampaging monsters inside gynasium, or possibly a church. Or maybe a church gymnasium.

Ring any bells? Might have been a Hammer film.
