The MOON!

With all the recent discussion on space tourism, I had a question for all of NS General.
Lets say you have US$1,000,000. How much of that would you spend for a 3 week vacation package (1 week ground training, 1 week combined travel time, 1 week on MOON) to the MOON?

The Moon is worth 1,000,000 Dollars.

Well first I would have to find out what the most inclusive and lowest price is for everything (a price which would fluctuate based on the FREE MARKET! :D)
*shamelessly injects capitalist propaganda*
But I would probably spend no more than $500k, $600k tops.

I tend to agree. It is the MOON, after all.
None of it. I can think of far better ways to waste that sort of money.

In fact it is worth at least 5 million.

Considering the average price of lifting weight into space, that's about how much I'd have to be to break even, I'd bet.

I could think of better ways to spend the money, but to spend it on the moon I would need more money!

I like the Moon, but I like a million dollars more. I'd put it in the bank, buy myself a nice car and finsih university - meanwhile hoping to live off the interest.
Maybe later, when I invested it and have plenty of millions of dollars I'll come back to it. But to be honest, I'd rather go to Mars.
I'd spend a million if they didn't bring me back.

But you will be crushed and that would be like a 120 Million dollar trip.

ditto.
but, wait..... do I have a million that I see as expendable for a vacation, or do I just have a million dollars total and want to go on vacaction.
because if I had like 80 million, I might spend 1 million to go to the moon, just so my husband would shut up about it.:p

Your million would buy you a very short life then.

My point exactly. Free of all the madness for just one million... And it's on the MOON!
Besides, 1 week on Luna for 1 million dollars should mean that there will be those nifty machines that let you reuse oxygen or just a greenhouse or something.
The moon?i'm not going till they build a theme park there, ala futurama

Hmmm, let me think.
Spend $1,000,000 to float around aimlessly for a week or so.
OR spend it on a decadently luxurious holiday in a villa on the Mediterranean.
Choices, choices.

You wont be saying that when you are all sun burnt.
You wont be saying that when you are all sun burnt.
Couldn't you be burned on the moon? i mean, it must be even worse without an atmosphere.
I'd rather invest the $1 million and eventually have enough to travel to Jupiter. That would be cool.

I think without an atmospheric coverage, the temperature in the direct sun is about 200+ C if I remember correctly.
I'd rather invest the $1 million and eventually have enough to travel to Jupiter. That would be cool.
But you can't land on Jupiter. Well, you could try to get into the atmosphere, but you'd be crushed before you could go very far.
Unless you were planning on bouncing on and off the atmosphere that is.

I just wanted to get low enough in the clouds to reach the "room temperature" level of 300K and see the water clouds. It would be really amazing to see that environment up close.

I believe either the gravitational or magnetic field would crush you before you could get that far down.

I don't know; Galileo survived to 24.1 bars, and the water level is at 10 bars. If technology was advanced enough for this to be faesible, it wouldn't be too difficult to prevent crushing.

Probably because people who go into space have this tendency to blow up from time to time.
