Why no timetable for Iraq?

Is it just me? A timetable for withdrawl of troops from a conflict is a good thing.

GWB thought so too, when he was a candidate in 2000...

Timetable for US peacekeepers to hand over to Europeans

...The President should also lay out a timetable for how long American troops will be involved and when they will be removed. If a residual force is needed, it is important that over time US troops are withdrawn and our European allies assume most of the responsibility...

Focus on core mission by removing US troops from Balkans

"The role of the US military is not to be all things to all people. Bush does not support an open-ended commitment to keep our troops as peacekeepers in the Balkans," said a spokesman. An advisor added, "Gore seems to have a vision of an indefinite US military deployment in the Balkans. He proved today that if he is elected, America's military will continue to be overdeployed, harming morale; re-enlistment rates, weakening our military's core mission."

Revise NATO; US out of Balkans; Europeans in

Bush has contended that the military has been run ragged by peacekeeping and humanitarian work, missions that are taking a toll on morale and readiness.

Let Russians convince Milosevic to step down

BUSH: The Russians [should] convince Milosevic it's in his best interest and his country's best interest to leave office. The Russians have got a lot of sway in that part of the world, and we'd like to see them use that sway to encourage democracy to take hold.

Pull US troops out of Balkans; and pay them more

"The current administration inherited a military ready for the dangers and challenges that faced our nation. The next president will inherit a military in decline. A volunteer military has only two paths. It can lower its standards to fill its ranks, or it can inspire the best brightest to join & stay." Bush promised to pull US troops out of peacekeeping missions in the Balkans and offer an additional $1 billion in raises for serving personnel, plus increased re-enlistment bonuses for key personnel.

I wonder if Dubya can spell HYPOCRITE?

Standard answer: because it would encourage the terrorists and they would stockpile weapons for a massive coup days after the US forces leave.

Gore would have been a far better president. The "lockbox" idea was good. A damn sight better then just busting out the country's credit card and giving the mega rich another pat on the back.

Sounds good in theory, but than so did the Bush plan...

Okay well they said was a good one... can you blame me for trusting Govt?

So Libs agree with many people's arguements that the "insurgents" are just Iraqis mostly? Sometimes you guys sound so reasonable...

Maybe you should petitition the Govt to look at the plan? Might take 6 months (Govt is slow), but eh.

Problems I see developing are Republicans don't want to sound chicken: Most stake their reputation on "total victory" or no tropp withdrawals.

You might need a moderate-like repub like McCain: though he too wants to go for President somedayso I don't know if he is willing to care more about the country than his votes.

I defeinately love the idea of putting more troops in Afganistan: should have done this originally.

So you wish us to pay Iraqi to support themselves after we leave...well bettter than us losing lives, but is it fiscially responsible budget wise? We are kinda doing bad in debt.

I doubt till the next President we will leave Iraq. Current one has nothing to lose by letting us stay there (he ca'nt be elected again after all).

If I was President I'd do it. (but that is many moons from now) Only 21 lol.
