So, I don't really care what you call it (personally I call it soccer and my brother tells me off for it:rolleyes: )

Anyway, what I want to know is who you all think is going to win out of Uruguay and Australia.

As for me, I'm voting for Australia (so what if i'm a tad biased)

:D

From what I can tell, they're pretty evenly matched. But it'd be nice to have a team from Oceania qualifying for once. Especially since, as from January, Australia will be moving from Oceania to Asia! (Weird...)

And since we're on the topic, who do you think will win in the other match, between Bahrain and Trinidad & Tobago?

Oh so they arent officialy in Asia???
Oh o course because they qualified to get this far by beating Vanuatu in Oceania.

The Solomon Islands, not Vanuatu. At least in the Oceania qualifying final.

Australia are still in Oceania for now; they'll shift to the Asia qualifying zone as from 2006. Which will leave only New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Island microstates in Oceania.

It'll make it just a tad easier for New Zealand to qualify in future Cups, anyway. Unless they get thrashed by the Solomons. ;)

Yeah well why should i bother to care who knocked us out all i now is it wasnt the Aussies.

It must have been NZ vs Vanuatu in UN21 i was thinking about but we won that match.

Really it dosent because FIFA changed their mind on Oceania Direct entry.

Uruguay, it just has to be. Though, if Australia qualify for the World Cup, England could end up playing them and we could get a nice 'Ashes' like score to push up our goal difference in the group stages.

To answer the earlier question, Australia last qualified in 1974.

The teams left in the Oceania Zone as from 2006 will be: Samoa, American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Tonga and Tahiti. :p

Hey American Samoa is always a tough game we beat them by 24 goals nearly everytime.

In any case we went to the cup a hell of a lot more recently than OZ.

Quite right. I've just looked up the statistics. New Zealand qualified in 1982.

NZ's biggest ever win was a 13-0 victory over Fiji. Its biggest loss was a 0-10 defeat against Australia. :p

As for American Samoa... Well, everyone beats them. ;) They have the world record for the worst defeat ever (0-31 against Australia).

The requirements for Wednesday are these:
You need to win.
You need to have a better goal difference than Uruguay.
If both teams score an equal number of goals on aggregate, ie a 2:1, the team with more away goals wins - that is Uruguay.

So either get 2:0, 3:1, 4:2 etc and Australia goes to the world cup.

What a fantastic thread!

I do hope that Australia qualify, I mean I do live here, and besides... it'll make the sport more popular in this country...

I'm backing the Spanish to stuff the Slovaks (again, Viva Espana)
The Swiss to hold on against the Turks
T & T to get through against Bahrain (Dwight Yorke deserves to play a WC, I think)
And the Czechs to beat Norway...

Reasons? I am a Dutch New Zealander, born in Germany, now living in Switzerland. Very confusing.

Oceania is even more of a joke now. New Zealand suck bad, even though they have a larger youth player base than rugby does. It shows you what systems, infrastructure and having people who truely know the game can do for a sport.
