The Other Iraq

Media reports tend to be focused on the tragic side of the War in Iraq, with the US and the rest of the coalition as the "bad guys" who have brought so much pain and suffering to an innocent people. Discussions are launched on NS with the view that freedom and independence is not the ultimate goal of the campaign in Iraq. It is intimated that a majority of the everyday Iraqi people are not supportive of a government and legal system based on majority rule, especially if the majority opinion is not in line with Western cultures. The Kurdish people launched an ad campaign this week to educate the Western world on their opinion of the war that the media is not reporting.

This is an amazing site, and worth a thorough viewing. Please comment.

PS: If someone else has created a thread on this, please pardon me.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have seen the "Thank You" ad run on FOX News a couple of times, but have not caught it on any other news or network stations. Have any of you seen it elsewhere?

There is always a ton of good news from Iraq. The WSJ has a column that runs biweekly and it sums up the accomplishments of the last two weeks. When it has some really good stuff, I try to post it, but it doesn't seem to interest most of the folks here. They're like the rest of the masses. Bad news sells.

I've watched my last CNN Daybreak. I used to watch it for Carol Costello. And because I couldn't stand the giggly Fox and Friends show. But after a couple of mornings of watching them gloat over various ways to seize profits and a complete misrepresentation of the ANWR region, I'm going to start watching that obnoxious trio. Maybe it isn't completely 'fair and balanced' to the tastes of our leftist friends, but it certainly isn't 'all the news, as long as it's left'.

I channel surf my news, FOX, CNN, BBC, MSNBC, etc. I usually read online newspapers from around the world, Guardian, Aljazeera, The Australian, etc, but I've gotten out of the habit lately dealing with RL stuff. I'll pick one or two main topics and compare the way the different news agencies spin them. I then take the salient views from each and develop my own view.

I live in a military town and my state has had several people deployed in Iraq. The reports and stories I hear from them is very different from what I see in the news media.

EDIT: I enjoy the humor of the FOX morning crew. I especially enjoy Tiki Barber every Tuesday morning. He's very good for the eyes.
