All right, I'll be straightforward. I don't mind trolling/spamming/etc. In fact, I'm one of those who gets a kick out of doing it. I find it absolutely hilarious. The responses I get, the stuff I type; it just cracks me up. If you would rather not help someone who, you feel, deserves what's coming to them, then this thread isn't for you.
I try not to be illegal. I don't make threats, try not to use too obscene words, etc. I think that the more stupid you make your posts/emails/whatever without having to stoop to the vulgar level, the funnier it is.
But I digress. I am a member of my school's French Honor Society. They send out emails occasionally. They make the mistake of including everyone's email address on it; so, being the [bleep] I am, I send several emails to all of those members (with a fake email of course).
The first email I sent was about the service credits we needed. I don't have a copy of it, but it was something to the effect of "omg!!!11 why so many credits i neeeedddd? help me someone please!!111". I got a response from the Society President and the below words in italics are my responses:

Being a member of the French Honor Society is an honorable position and is

Students are required to complete service and enrichment
credits because our Society emphasizes these characteristics in order to build
better role models in our community. As a new member, you were informed of
the requirements before your application. In addition, new members are
required to complete five credits by December 22 (old members must complete ten).
umm i think i know the requirements. i dont need to hear the propaganda.
The officers schedule plenty of events that members can sign up for in
advance. If members have a problem attending these events, they can inform
an officer to discuss other credit opportunities.

After that, I recieved an email from one of the members asking why I was sending emails to him; below is my response:

"sorry ill send my emails to whoever i want. thank you. please dont tallk to me like that again. kthnxsbye
ps go back to wisconsin and jerk it, kweer.
pss if you have a weiner, that is. i dont."
-----
At the end of each message I left the name of some random student I remembered. Granted, I do deserve any punishment that will come if I am caught, I just have some questions.
First, has any crime been committed by me sending these emails? I didn't make any threats. But could I be criminally charged?
Secondly, how would someone track me down through the emails I sent?
I would ask how to not get caught, but I have a feeling that's against the rules. Most importantly, I just want to know what laws I've broken.
If you could find in your hearts some compassion for a known troll, I would greatly appreciate it. Though, you may be asking yourselves, "Why should we help you?", I ask you "What sets you apart from trolls if you don't help somebody?"

What you've done isn't funny. It's a start, a rough cut of what could be if you keep practising and live the dream, but that's many years and many emails away.

First, you might be able to be charged with mischief or identity theft (using someone else's name is a no no; make one up).
Second, it is surprisingly easy (if you know how) to track down someone through the e-mails they've sent. But for the sake of brevity I won't actually explain it here.
I guess that's about it.

Two quick points. First, if being a fucking retard is allowed, being a troll should be allowed. Half the time when I see someone get cited or banned for trolling, the person on the receiving end deserves it. Second, if your intent was to be funny in those emails, you failed - miserably. I didn't even crack a smile. And that's bad, because I'm easily amused. If you're going to be an asshole, be an asshole and be good at it. If you're going to be funny, be funny and be good at it. You failed to do either. Conclusion: you fucking suck at trolling. Leave it to the professionals.

I don't think this is a serious case of criminal impersonation. My French teacher said that she had my school's police officer and vice principal and principal on the issue. Along with her computer whiz son.
I imagine it wouldn't take them all that long to discover the perpetrator of the act if they were really focused on it. You'd just have to look at the ISP logs of the email, contact the ISP, and they would provide you with the IP and the owner of said IP, right?
Perhaps she was bluffing and tried to scare the troll into stopping (which worked, actually; never taking that risk again.)

I dunno, around. Lots of work this year, checked out the forums a few times, posted once about how I avoided being hit by an elderly Asian lady and got banned for a few days, which was fun. Other than that there hasn't really been much to argue about on here that I haven't argued about 10 times already. Find me somethin'. :D
I've actually been messing with my nation, too, and I've gotten it to be pretty good.
Yeah, dubass! You committed fraud, and you're going to be charged with one count of the crime for EACH student you falsely misrepresented yourself as.
You can also be charged with seperate counts of fraud for each email you sent posing as them.
How many of these emails have you sent? Are you aware of the maximum penalty allowed by law in your state for each and every count?
Don't forget about harrasment. Do you have money if you're also taken to civil court for harrasment, defamation and fraud?
I hope you have a damn good lawyer, or a really loose asshole. Either way, if you're busted it'll probably hurt.

Well, I misspoke, I used the same name for each of the three emails.
However, I'm skeptical because I know the kid who's name I used and yet he didn't mention anything about being interogated today (which I would expect if this case were being taken seriously; the emails carrying his name and all). Also, if the case were being taken seriously, would they not have found me by now?
PS: I have a very loose asshole and I am perfectly capable (and willing) of submitting to Bubba.
Depending ont he email service you used to create the fals emails and what securit you used (firewalls and anonymizers and the like) tracking you could be as easy as sending three properly phrased emails to the proper addresses (Email ISP, Your ISP, and then the local administrator for your ISP, thats if they wanted an adress, a name would only take the first two), or as hard as about two hours of work for a decent FBI internet fraud/harrasment (or whatever they call the 'net force' these days) agent.
Unless your more of the institutionally paranoid type and have top of the line stuff that could take as long as a week to track down.
Laws you've broken: Pretty much all been mentioned here, Criminal impersonation, Harrasment, mischief, possibly falseley representing yourself, braking some of the new spam laws.
You could be looking at some major fines and depending on how the affected parties proceed and how good their lawyers are compared to yours possibly some severe restriction on your 'net priviledges.

if the school was really worried about it they would have found you by now, my best guess is that you will get supended mayby expelled if you school is lame like that, you will mostlike ly end up doing lots of comunity service and you will lose you privledge to use the school computer lab.
the FBI has better things to do than track down high school pranksters, what you did does not threatin national security so dont worry.
if they ask if it was you fess up and tell the truth they will probly be nice about the punishment that you receve than if you have to track you down
hope it helps:) and good luck

if the emails were sent throught a school computer, the comp lab admin just looks at the internet log thing
you can also "ping" computers to find out where they are- to do this you need the IP adress
if you are really worried unplug your comp from the internet

Definitely assholish of you to go messing around in a mail group like that.
Doubtful they will do anything about it (unless the son is uber intelligent and the teacher just as vindictive)
Disturbing how you say you are ready and willing to "submit to Bubba" even though you aren't even out of high school yet.
Disgusting how you claim to be "eaten up with guilt" but refuse to actually take responsibility for your actions.
Have a nice life.
