Your Greatest Fear ?

The Emperor Fenix

There has, i think, been a similar thread some time ago. But it's been a while and i missed it last time round so i dont think it is too improper to begin a-new.

And so, your greatest fear; what is it ?

The more i try to think of mmine the more i appear to have and they go rather like this...

Large bodies of water and the things that live in them.
Wasps & Bees.
Mustard & Mayonaise.
Going Insane.

Being buried alive.

Also, being forced to live in a theocracy, or perhaps a 1984-style society.

Edit: Also, long-legged house centipedes. A observationally-learned phobia from my days as an infant.

Fear itself. :D

I'm not trying to be cliche, but I am afraid of being afraid. I don't really fear anything directly persay, but rather the negative feelings associated fear.

"Your Greatest Fear?"

On a personal level, it use to be that I would die without ever having truly lived, but I took care of that. :D

Now, again on a personal level, my greatest fear is to wind up with Alzhiemer's or something similar. It's not that likely for me, since there's been no history of it in my family, so it's not something I worry about.

Overall, my greatest fear is that something bad will happen to my children and/or grandchildren. I've taken steps to insure they're as wise as I can make them, and that they have a bit of help along the way, but it's impossible to protect them against everything.

becomming successful and having too much power/responsibility and fucking it up by making poor decisions that will hurt a lot of people somehow.

Normally I like being scared but I don't want to hurt others. This world is painful enough to live in.

OH also having a kid... same premise though - don't want to be the cause of anothers pain

My greatest fear is being bound into living in an aslyum for a period of your lifetime because you are going insane. Those medical institutes don't cure mental illness! They encourage it goddammit! I hate anyone who works in them, they're frickin' Nazis I tell you! I hate their uses of stun guns, straight jackets, throwing you away into a room of darkness, needles, and worst of all: being tied down on your bed with something wrapped around your mouth! It's a justification of Hell.

Becoming pregnant is my greatest (potentially) realistic fear. But if we're talking about Room 101 type fears here, then drowning to death / burning to death / being buried alive feature strongly on my personal list.

In terms of phobias, I fear crowds (and I mean proper help-I-can't-breathe-'cause-they're-crushing-me crowds), and being away from tidal waters (strange, I know - I call it The Embrace Of Tides).

In terms of keeping me awake at night, I fear that I won't be able to make any difference to the world.

I have a fear of being in a situation where my children need help but I am unable to help them, I have nightmares about it sometimes (mostly after eating spicey food for dinner lol)

there is one where the house is on fire and I pass out from smoke inhalation and can't get them out, the one where there is a tornado and a tree lands on me and I can't get them to shelter (cuz I am dead), the one where the car flips over and I am pinned and it is leaking gas and about to explode and I can't get loose to help them out of thier carseats, the one where someone breaks into my house and kills me and then steals my kids..............

yeah, I am having second thoughts about making chili tomorrow night......:(

In terms of phobias, I fear crowdsYeah, of late I've started having that a bit too. I've never especially liked being in crowds, but more recently I've had panic attacks and suchlike if I'm in a place that is particularly busy for its size. Don't know where it came from, but it's not nice, and can in some ways infringe on one's social life; for example, if I'm going to a pub, it has to be one that at least has reasonable breathing space, and preferably one that's half empty. I have no doubt that this makes my friends think I'm even more dull than I actually am, but I can't help it.

I also hate heights and being underwater. I love being on ground level.

I really hate ovens.:( I am so freaked out by them. that and stuff like those electric stoves, sodering irons, styrofoam cutters, and other stuff where its hard to tell if there hot or not.

also dieing in any painful way or being tortured

ironicly I love to play with fire and just burn stuff in general, but if a burn stuff around metal I freak out and wont go near the metal for like 20 minutes

Well, the usual being burned alive/tortured to death etc. makes me cringe, but i get really edgy when things are unorganised. I've got up in the middle of the night before and just tidied up the floor in my room, then got back to bed again. Strange person i am..

Planes. Yes you heard me. I know it the most illogical and stupid fear as they are safer than cars, but they scare me to shit. I mean its really really really bad. To make matters worse, I travel a good deal so... I cant think of anything worse.

Also, its not flying in the plane, its fear of it crashing.

Failure. My ambitions are everything to me---if I do not succeed...d

Harming others. My very existance is already a burden on others---it's why I go out of my way to be useful.

Sex. It's horrid, disgusting, and filthy---but at the same time incredibly tempting to my hormones.

I fear the ground, especially when it involves plummeting from very high places. I fear anything bad happening to my son. I fear people who are afraid of clowns because I'm fairly sure they require serious mental help. Spongebob Sqaurepants terrifies the sh** out of me.

Sounds like a classic case of mild OCD. If it becomes a problem (or already is), you should have that checked out. Otherwise, eh, we've all got our own little eccentricies. ;)

The fear that if/when the time ever came for me to stand up for what is right and do it no matter what the cost, that I wouldn't be able to.

In a more practical sense, the fear that I'll die alone is pretty ever-present in my life. And I also seem to have a problem with heights.

Rape, hate crimes, and falling (hitting the ground is fine, heights are fine, but diving boards, long jumps, roller coasters, and most water rides are definitely out).

Also, I'm really, really scared of memory loss.

H N Fiddlebottoms VIII
10-11-2005, 23:59
My fear is not knowing what is going on. I really hated this absent minded teacher in High School, who'd say your name 2-3 times when trying to group us up. "Fiddlebottoms . . . Fiddlebottoms . . . Fiddlebottoms . . .", and at this point I am practically having seizures and am just barely resisting the urge to kill her so she'd just shut-up.
But also if I'm in a room with my back to the door, that makes me twitchy, or if I know something is happening nearby, but I don't what precisely.

There's also the common place fear of suddenly becoming convinced that there is someone stalking you, or a sniper on a rooftop.
Jennislore
11-11-2005, 00:07
Oh yes, and open doors make me twitchy and irritable and I just can't stand them. I think this is rooted in one of two things:
A. My sister used to bully me very badly, so when I finally got my own room, I would leave the door closed to make it seem as though I wasn't inside, which turned into a fear of being walked in on (if I'm alone in a room and someone is coming I get nervous and I want to hide—even if it's my friend who was in the room to begin with and is coming back from the bathroom).
or B. My family has pet cats and I had pet rats. And then I got a fuzzy beanbag chair, so the cats weren't allowed in otherwise Beanbag becomes Stinky.

As you might guess, I prefer the much more glamorous A—though B is far more plausible...

One of my fears is that the realisation that I'm the only sane one left will inevitably drive me to insanity.

Another is that I will die from an infection of a ruptured colon. Seriously, that would be such an anticlimax.

I fear that my only purpose in life is to be a side character to the life stories of everyone I meet.

And right now, I fear the big mound of paper sitting on the floor behind me. It can manipulate my thoughts. "Organise me... tidy me... stack me into shelves..."
