No. However, it is close to Iraqq with one R.

According to Petra (Jordan News Agency) is now reporting that these are 3 suicide bombers.

This is, of course, unconfirmed.

18 are still confirmed dead.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jordan and to the victims.

Are you kidding me?
Let me explain this, since it eluded you: the first version of the original post's title spelled Jordan as "Jordann".
BTW: It is not spelled "Iraqq", man. It's either Iraq or Irak.

Exactly, someone needs to read up on the 3rd Annual NationStates Who's Who guide. I'm listed under "Popular Generalites" (p. 359 to be exact) under the heading "C".

You're in it too, under the "Annoying Posters" section in the back.

It was compiled by me, Neo Kervoskia, and The Noble Men a while back. I lost the link, it isn't sold in any bookstores, and yes, everyone has a copy except you. ;)

And let's end the hijacking, like now, ok?

Getting back to the topic...

Why would the Islamo-Fascists target Jordan? You would think most of their middle eastern resources are tied up in Iraq.

Honestly, why antaganize another arab nation? They attacked one that was relitively neutral. From a strategic sense, it makes none.

Those hotels often have High ranking Americans in them and are stayed in by Americans. That was why they were hit.

But you risk antagonizing a neutral government for the benifit of maybe getting an american or two?

Perhaps I'm thinking to logically for them, but it does not make strategic sense to me.

They don't care about antagonizing the governments of Arab nations. They want to separate those governments from western support and topple them in order to replace them with Islamic extremists and use the power and wealth of the Arab world to conquer more lands and people for their brand of Islam.

Jordanian government is not seen as "neutral" by the Islamists because it is secular (in fact, probably the most stable of the remaining secular Arab regimes) and because Jordan is an American ally.

Make no mistake, the attack's true target was not the Western tourists, but Jordan itself. It's an attempt to ignite a rise of Islamist sentiment within Jordan and destabilize the rule of king Abdullah.

Which won't occur. These people oppose Zarqawi and his lot and this attack does nothing to raising support. In fact, just the opposite.

Jordan is also one of the few Arab nations with normalized relations with Israel. In fact, Israel and Jordan trade quite a bit.

My prayers go out to my Jordanian kinsmen (I have ancestors from there). And to the investigators: Good hunting!

Don't be so sure. Like in many Arab states today, the political opposition to the existing regime is predominantly Islamist, and I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a takeover. The attacks will generate some resentment, yes, but they will also be spun as the fault of the Jordanian government for allying themselves with the US and for having a peace treaty with Israel- or simply for not being Islamic enough.

I'm sure they'll try to spin it that way...but I don't think they'll succeed.

Simple people don't like being blown up, and they're not necessarily stupid enough to ignore the fact that most if not all casualties were actually Jordanians. The Iraqis afterall don't like being blown up either, and no one joins the "Resistance" there because they lost family or something in a terrorist attack (to my knowledge).

In other news (and I'm surprised no one's made a thread about it yet), Jemaah Islamiyah's top bomb maker and bomb making teacher is dead...

Jordan, for those who don't know the difference between various Middle-Eastern countries, is one of the most progressive countries in the region.

My thoughts go to the victims and their families, obviously. :(

In the case of Jordan however, the situation is a tad different. They do not support the terrorists. Now the terrorists have given them another reason not too.

The attacks will generate some resentment, yes, but they will also be spun as the fault of the Jordanian government for allying themselves with the US and for having a peace treaty with Israel- or simply for not being Islamic enough.

I don't see that happening. Al Qaeda will try but Jordan don't consider the terrorists to be Muslim.

And yet there exists a fair bit of support for the "resistance", despite the fact that they blow up ordinary Iraqis day after day.

I'm reading about the reactions in Jordan. There is a lot of fear that the attacks will drive away the tourists and induce an economic downfall, which for the terrorists would already be an achievement.

On the other hand, there is a lot of rage against Al-Qaeda and Zarkawi, and it does appear that support for the king has increased rather than fallen. The blame is being directed at the Iraqi refugees though, by the logic of "it couldn't possibly be Jordanians doing that) and it hardly contributes to Jordan's internal stability.

There were protest rallies against Zarqawi today in Jordan Chanting:

"Death to Zarqawi" and "Burn in hell Zarqawi"

Looks like Jordan is more united against Zarqawi now.

I support those Jordanian protestors 100%. What we have now is a question: If and when Zarqawi is captured, who gets to try him - Jordan or Iraq.

He has crippled Iraq, yet he is a traitor to Jordan.

Perhaps a dual court should try this terrorist/traitor. Jury will be half Iraqi, half Jordanian.

Rest assured that it is unlikely that he would be taken alive. People like him have a tendency to blow themselves up rather than be captured.

And some people reckon he's been dead for months...
