TO suspended for the season!

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Terrell Owens won't return to the Philadelphia Eagles this season, coach Andy Reid said Monday.

The outspoken star receiver was suspended for Sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate Owens for the rest of the season.

"The league has been notified by the players' union that they will be grieving our right to take that action," Reid said, "therefore there is nothing more that I can say at this point."

Owens was suspended over the weekend following a tumultuous week in which he criticized the club, fought with a former teammate and took another verbal shot at quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"I do want it to be clear that this decision is a result of a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time," Reid said.

Owens "had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions," Reid said. "We gave Terrell every opportunity to avoid this outcome."

Owens was suspended Saturday, two days after he said the Eagles showed "a lack of class" for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch in a game on Oct. 23. In the same interview with ESPN.com on Thursday, Owens said the Eagles would be better off with Green Bay's Brett Favre at quarterback.

Owens was involved in a fight last week with former Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas, who remains with the team as its "ambassador."

McNabb, who feuded with Owens throughout the summer and has been a constant target of his criticism, finally took a stand in the matter, saying the Eagles might be "better off" without Owens.

"Obviously it is tough losing a guy of his caliber, his ability, but I think we might be better off," McNabb said after throwing an interception that sealed the loss to Washington. "I think what we did tonight, we showed that we played well together. I think we also showed that when given the opportunity, guys can make plays for us. We're 4-4. We're not 1-7. I think that's the way to look at it. For the guys in the locker room, we win together and we lose together."

Oh how joyous it is for me to see the most egotistical prick, removed from the playing field. Hopefully this will make an example for all those other jerks that play for the pay and not for the game. This just once again proves that no one is too good to be replaced. Hats off to you Andy Reid and the Eagles, maybe now your football team might be enjoyable to watch :D

My only experience of American football was watching a monumental bitchfight between Owens and McNabb, so I suppose it would be a good thing if they were separated.

No way will the Eagles be a better team without Owens than they were with him--he's just that talented, and all the chemistry in the world won't help the rest of that WR corps get open. I'll tell you who's happiest about this, though--everyone else in the NFC who was eyeballing the playoffs, because the Eagles will have a harder time getting there now.

Don't get me wrong--the Eagles had to do it--but they're certainly not a better team for it.

He'll be back in the league next year making $10 million and catching a hundred balls for 1,200 yards and 10 TDs, and the Eagles will be lucky to get into the playoffs without him. Their problems this season have precious little to do with Owens--they can't stop the run and they can't run the ball and their QB is playing with a hernia. Any team with those problems would be lucky to be 4-4.

He's one of the best football players I have had the pleasure to watch in my life . But he's a cancer and the team is better off without him .
No doubt for alot of reasons the Eagles are having a screwed up year . they lost alot of heart in the off - season to free agency and just bad personel decisions and the rest of the division got better .

But the quality of a team is measured in two things--wins and championships--and by either of those, I seriously doubt the Eagles will be a better team.

No, the Eagles will be a better team without Owens because not only was Owens a locker room and public cancer, he was also a self-aggrandising nincompoop who makes the game all about him and wouldn't understand a team concept if it came up and put a Sean Taylor hit on him.

His obvious football talents weren't worth the bullshit he inflicted on his teammates and the organisation.
