NS Convention?

Spawned out of the depths of meeting NSers in real life, this is the NS convention thread.
An Idea has been proposed that we have 3 seperate conventions. One in Europe, one in North America, and one in Aussie country.
Any thoughts?

An Australian meeting would be cool, but the problem is, there's only a handful of us that are general regulars, and we're spread all over the country. I suppose I could fly up to Sydney for a weekend one time, but meh.

I created a very similar thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=427307) a while back. Check to see if that contains any good ideas, or if it's all spam. ^_^

If we're going to talk international politics, it's a good place to go, and only 50 bucks to get in (unless we want to run an NS booth).
At the very worst, we would be viewed as unseemly gate crashers. At best, we would get to talk to some very famous and influential policymakers.

I was thinking more along the lines of Michigan. Good, cheap flights from the East Coast. Kindof in the middle of the country. Good driving distence from major Canadian Cities.

I think we should have the N American one in North Carolina. The weather is still nice (70's) and Eut and I could show everyone the good bars with the strongest drinks! :D Hell, If we get a van, I can have my wife be the designated driver! (she doesn't drink very often)
Pay for my trip and I'm so there.

Kansas City is close to the statistical center of population for the US. I'm not sure what the CoP for the US + Canada is, but I'd imagine it's a bit farther north and east. Call it Chicago.
If it is Chicago, it must be in the summer. Not the winter. There is nothing between Chicago and the North Pole except the Canadian border, which does little to slow down the wind.

I agree, either Chicago or KC for the NA convention. Probably Chicago since O'Hare is an airport hub, or so I've heard.

O'Hare is the worst airport.
Far too large, far too many planes. Planes landing side by side on two parallel runways.
I have permanent memories of running down one wing of the airport and up the other to make a United flight.

Just cuz it's "North America" doesn't mean it has to be in the U.S. or Canada.
I suggest Panama! Not only because I'm too darn lazy to fly to a convention (also, I happen to be reliant on my parents for cash), but because everything is cheaper here. Except for electronics. Panama City is just like Miami (just more Spanish and less English, although a very large portion of the population speaks English at least well), we've got a convention center, and an international airport. You guys could also go swimming in the Panama Canal. How fun!
Of course, seeing how I'm too lazy, someone would have to fly down here for the convention...
Or we could pool all our cash and host one big convention in Dubai. Seeing how Dubai owns, and it's in the fricken middle of the world(unless you're coming from the Americas, but then you can spend a few grand on a kick-ass flight).
Of course, no one will accept my ideas...
Communists...
i shall vote for the european one to be held in germany. somehwat middle-ish, geographically, eh? and berlin rocks, so.. see you there?
If we're doing a north american one it will have to be in either the Hamilton-Area or the Greater Toronto Area in order for me to attend.
Either that or towards the end of summer when I may discover I have disposable income...
Oh, but in either case, I vote it's held in Canada, due to the lower drinking age and the fact that the authorities don't give a shit about pot... so we can have a good old party. :D

So maybe another midwestish locale. I dunno. St. Louis, maybe. Or we could just stick with the original KC idea. It's the "real" Central America;)

But then I think it should be held in Iceland too. (But I think that might be because I'm hoping everyone over there will look like Bjork.) ;)

So any real Ideas as to when it will actually be?
In my opinion if you get someone to decide on a spot and an "official" date you might actually be able to see who would actually be able to come or not.
You could also make it a type of democratic thing, take a vote for the different locals, and dates and see which gets the most. Otherwise I see these topics becomeing a whole lot of nothing, but what do I know? :p

Kansas City air fare is usually FAR lower than Chicago, plus the fact that KCI is much easier to navigate, and between the couple of us that live in the KC area we can probably not only tell you guys the best places to stay, but also get group rates at various hotels and book a convention center or two. Personally I'm biased to the fairly new OPCC, but Downtown may work better simply because of the consideration that, hey, some NSers might really like getting mugged.

On that note, I'd just as easily say "Please make it (the North American Convention) near Kansas City :p ", as that's where I live.
I don't mind flying a bit (well, if I ever get out of the hospital visits, and can manage the time away from school and both my jobs, that is), but it just seems that for price, managability, and centralized location, KC is a possible solution.
I think we should all meet at the highly acclaimed destination of Cedar City, Utah, USA. It is far away from everyone (:looks innocent:) and thus provides a good central point.

KC is an option, although if the Covention is held anywhere other than Chicago, I doubt I'd be able to attend. It is a major airport hub, still relatively equidistant to both Coasts (not so much as KC, but still somewhat so), and generally, in my mind, a more logical choice. Eh, whatever. If it's in Chicago, great. If not, oh, well, I don't go, is all.

I still say Dubai.
Or in the U.S., Boston. Because Boston is awesome. Awesome-er than Chicago, at least...Problems: Boston's on the East Coast, which makes it impractical for West Coast Americans or Canadians or for people who aren't old enough to travel without a chaperone to attend. Putting the convention in a West Coast city makes it unlikely that East Coast Americans or Canadians will attend. Chicago is a good midway point where it wouldn't be too outrageously far for people on either coast.
Also, Logan Airport is teh sux0rz. At least Chicago also has Midway Airport so people don't necessarily have to fly into O'Hare. Boston also has traffic problems (at least partly blamed on the Big Dig).
However, if people decide on Boston, I'm going to insist on going to see the U.S.S. Constitution because I'm just navally obsessed like that. :p

There are no figures for interest either way. Seeing as how, according to the NS Mapping project, there are at least as many continentals as UKers, I imagine interest would be quite the same, just basing that on lack of evidence to the contrairy.

Apparently if you hold a NS convention in London or elsewhere in England around the end of January or beginning of February, I might be able to come. Or at least film it through the window and mail the tape to the CIA headquarters for them to scan it for anti-American terrorist activities such as liberalism, criticizing George W. Bush, or being from Canada.

At heart? Honey, I'm still a teenager in years (though somebody pointed out the other day (was it Czardas....?) that "teenager" stops at 18 and after that you're just "young adult"). And I never got those crappy little party games like I mentioned -- we were too busy getting all drunk and disorderly. I want, just once in my life, to have a sleepover and play all those kinds of games.
I mean, aside from this weekend, because passion parties don't count.
And who better to do it with than a bunch of strangers I met online who could totally be lying about who they are?
