I hate sucky subject choosing.
I have two units left to fill in my degree. It's a BA, but that's irrelevant, because I can pick almost anything, considering that I haven't taken any non-arts electives.
The thing is, I don't know what the hell to pick. And I have to pick something by tomorrow.
So....
Anyone done any especially interesting courses as part of their degrees lately? Give me some ideas.
Meh...I might end up doing another language...but they're hard work. Maybe a music elective. I dunno...

Orbital Mechanics and Thermodynamics. Those are usually good for an easy A.
On a serious note, I did take "Rocks for Jocks" in the form of Geology 101. It was actually a pretty nice change from serious engineering work.

Heh! That would be rather strange going hand in hand with a Politics/International Studies double major. :p
I'm not adverse to science/computer stuff though, as long as it's not something i'll need a whole lot of background in.
Although, "Orbital Mechanics and Thermodynamics" does sound cool. I probably should have aimed for an engineering degree instead. Meh.

Seriously, anyone that is interested in public policy should probably have a cursory understanding of science. Only because you'll have to talk to an engineer or two along the way.
Aren't there some intro-level classes that do a bunch of labs and don't get too deep into derivations and proofs?

Well, I do have a cursory understanding of science. Physics, anyway. :)
And I would imagine so. There are probably basic chemistry courses I can choose. The limitation there is cost, though. I'll have to pay for a lab coat, graphics calculator, etc. and it's not really worth it if i'm only doing two units for the year....

Kanabia, what you ought to go for is some totally absurd, nonsensical, useless Mickey Mouse course that will enable you to goof off.

Find something fun, then. Take a PE class in archery or weightlifting or anything else that you don't do now. Open the catalog and sign up for the first random choice you are eligible for. Take a military history class. That subject had an added bonus at Ohio State. Woody Hayes taught the classes.

While I was majoring in English Literature, I took chemistry classes as electives.
Organic chemistry and P-chem were fun. Not too fun for the people who were required to take them.

have you taken introductory calculus?
you should at least know the basics of calculus. if you already the know the basics, try a second year course...
....but make sure you take like "calculus for engineers" or "calculus for psychologists" or something. taking a second year course in calculus that is designed for math students is going to lead you into analysis, which scares even the most dedicated math geeks. taking a course designed for other disciplines, however, will mostly be applied and will not focus on proofs as much as on usage.
an introduction to statistics may also be useful if you plan on doing anything that requires being voted in anywhere.

I'm already taking a Vietnam War subject as part of my major, so that counts as military history, right? :) (I'm not sure of the differences in the USA, maybe Military History is treated as an entirely seperate field. It's not over here, though.)
I did pick something fun, though...A music theory class. Reading the description, it sounds interesting....I figure that since i've got some background knowledge anyway I shouldn't have too much trouble. And if I do, I can always change out of it later and swap for something else. Meh. That'll do for now. :)

At a high school level, yes, I have. I have to be careful and choose something that isn't too technical though, 'cause i'm aiming for at least a 70% average across the board...
Hmmm...i'll have to think about that music course I picked. But like I said, I can change out of it.

Haha...I thought about doing first-year Japanese and aceing all of the tests...but I figured they'd probably catch on and bump me up to a harder course. :p

Does the music theory class sight sing? That was always a disqualifier for me.

do some kind of economics or introduction to economics... invaluable and highly interesting if not too maths-ish. its also related to politics of course...

Try some psych courses -- fun if you don't have to depend on them for your degree. Also art or music appreciation... maybe a creative writing course? Mass Media?
oh meh, i was about to suggest psych as well!
too bad we're both doing about the same thing at uni (->only the times where i don't do nursing, that is, of course) or i could tell you to take all those cool curses i'm doing right now..
so anyhow..how about philosophy? and..for my english minor, i have to do a course called "how to make a dictionary". sounds incredibly stupid, is rather..different, but still a lot of fun. i also like my "speaking" class where we get to talk about whatever we feel like, as long as it is in english. i LIKE that course..:D i'm still waiting for them to catch on that i'm not a beginner in english and kick me out, but as long as they don't..i collect my hard-earned credit points..

It looks like a mix of music history, notation, chord theory, and an optional practical component where you get to show off and experiment with instruments from around the world.
It could be fun. :)

I tried to transfer to an arts/economics course last year, but I did the wrong maths at high school so they won't let me. As it is, i've done a fair few economics minded subjects within my international studies major, so I've got some background in it. I've heard that the few courses open to arts students are pretty crappy from some people who have tried them, as well...

Hmmm....psych...might be an idea, actually.
I did two journalism courses in my first year of university. I aced them with high distinctions, but I found it was extremely difficult for anyone to take me seriously when I asked for interviews, because i'm a student...so I didn't end up carrying on with it as the frustration proved too much. A creative writing course might be interesting, though.

Too well. Most of the sociology courses can be included in a politics major. I'm looking for something a little different. :)

so anyhow. well, i've been honored with english classes at school since 3rd grade. plus, my parents decided to afford taking a break from me by sending me to the US for a year. so ye.

Monash is okay. It excels at science and engineering courses though, not arts ones. If I do any further study, it'll probably be at Melbourne University.
