The problem with this question is that there are a vast number of people who like to claim insanity to be unique, and on the flip side there are people that would not like to be insane whether they are or not... I think I may be insane, on the average day I get a number of people telling me so... but who can truely define insanity?

damn I hate myself.

An independent 3rd party.
Its a paraphrase of Catch-22, if you say you are crazy, then you are sane enough to know the difference and can't be crazy. If, however, you are crazy, then you won't know the difference and will almsot certainly claim to be sane.
damn I hate myself.
A healthy dose of Self-Loathing can keep you from becoming arrogant, which can lead to Megalomania, a form of insanity that is often accompanied by Paranoia. So keep up the good work!

The answer to this question usually depends on a few conditions:

A. Who's doing the asking.

B. Wether or not I feel like lying to that person at the time.

C. What the askers definition of "crazy" is.

D. ARE YOU WRITING A BOOK?! i cut yer fekkin eyes out, agghhh!!!

Oh hell, this thread is the limit!

Just because I'm somewhat eccentric, and perhaps slightly unbalanced those times that I am not somewhat more unbalanced than slightly, and have the word 'certified' on my 'happy pill' perscription, that doesnt mean I'm not sane does it?

And if you think I'm not sane then how come I figured out your fiendish trap? Do you think I dont know, that I have not realised how you have all colluded, posting for months (and in some cases 1 year+) just to fool me into thinking this is a regular forum rather than having been put together just so when my guard was down you could spring the old 'are you insane' routine on me....oh no you wont get me that easily!

What do you mean by sane? Definitions tend to vary. Some people say that Sanity is your ability to rationally analyse situations and act according to your deductions and reasoning. Some say that Sanity is your tendency to conform to the societal norm in terms of behaviour and response. Most people claim that it's both.

To that, I say that if Society itself is shown to be irrational, Sanity and Insanity are one and the same. And society is quite clearly irrational. Do I need to give evidence?

Ergo, I'm both, and I am neither.

What do you mean by sane? etc
That seems an overcomplication. I suggest that sane is the opposite of insance, if you are not insane then you can be deemed sane.

Determining insanity is fairly simple. If you have sucidal tendancies but cannot kill yourself, then you are sane.

However clearly in a world such as we live anyone would have to be insane to not have suicidal tendancies.

Therefore by eliminating the sane 'all those with sucidal tendancies who cannot kill themselves' and 'all those who fail to manifest suicidal tendancies' we are left with the obvious criteria of 'sane', specifically dead....

See it's all very simple really.:p

It's there.
It's possible that I didnt type the 'in' (or that I typed it then wiped it out with the backslash), it's possible it's there but you dont see it.

Given that I'm not dead (and neither are you) there's little point trying to come up with a reasonable sane conclusion about quite what is going on with the 'in' referred to.

Working out reasonable sane conclusions is not something insane people are necessarily qualified to do. If you really want to know what happened, you ought to see if you can get a dead person to work it out for you, only dont count on being able to rationally interpret whatever conclusion they might communicate to you...it's best to take such things with a grain of salt (or a pinch of pepper) when one is insane...:headbang:

Insanity is a legal term. It means that you cannot discern the difference between right and wrong, or cannot control your impulses to commit wrong.
Wrong being illegal or immoral? In fact, it makes no difference; both are restrictions placed on the individual by the society within which he lives.

That seems an overcomplication. I suggest that sane is the opposite of insance, if you are not insane then you can be deemed sane.
That's not a definition. You're saying that Sanity is the opposite of Insanity, and that Insanity is the opposition of Sanity. Circular definitions don't work! You've got to make some worthwhile interpretation of the term somewhere.

I still think that my suggestions for sanity are the general ones:

Some people say that Sanity is your ability to rationally analyse situations and act according to your deductions and reasoning. Some say that Sanity is your tendency to conform to the societal norm in terms of behaviour and response. Most people claim that it's both.

Let's see...

I'm a seventeen year old mischief maker trapped in the body of a 32 year old family man.

I take nothing seriously.

My hobbies include: playing football and rugby with guys who outweigh me by about 100 lbs, playing in mud, and quantum physics.

Nothing amuses me more than when guys get struck repeatedly in the groin. Even if it's my groin. :(

I jump in quicksand on purpose and I once duct-taped a classmate naked to a toilet.

I'm a professional clown.

Ok, let me get this straight.

You are cruising along in the NS general forum (an environment you not entirely ignorant of, but rather are actually at least 'somewhat' familiar with), and you see a thread called

'are you insane?'

I'm with you up to here (presuming of course I have correctly interpeted the events leading up to this point).

You then go on to conclude that there is some actual (as opposed to theoretical) 'hope' that the contents of the thread might include a serious discussion?

Well if you say it's so, I guess I gotta take your word for it...
