I've taught my lil dog ( a spaniel/golden retriever mix ) to salute! Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, she will only do so when laying down. I tried and tried to get her to salute while "sitting up," but she just whines and lays down, then salutes!
But then I got to thinking about this. Could this be taught to humans, specifically women, under certain ... circumstances? And, if so, could I patent it? This could be a goldmine! :D

Maybe your dog is actually giving you a lazy man's high five rather than a salute :p
Why don't you take a picture? It would help with the imagery.

I would, but I still haven't been able to figure out how to download from my digital camera to the PC. :(

Your dog salute could become the next internet fad.

How would women come into play? Under what circumstances? What are you implying?

What? You don't think it would be kewl for a woman to learn to salute her man everytime she lays down? Tsk! :D

It's how it works. It'll be like that picture with the cat being chased by the Domo Kuns.

I don't believe you can patent behaviors in animals. A patent implies your direct control over the distribution and production of something, and is most likely impossible to apply to learned behaviors. Now if you wanted to sell your secrets in Forrest Horn's Big Book o'Dog Tricks(I'd buy it!!) that's a different story. Then you could copyright it(the book that is).
But teaching a dog to salute is pretty cool. I'm sure the military might like what you've done. Don't a lot of military bases/units have a dog mascot? Plus the canine units too... Go tell them. I'm sure they'll eat it up.:)
