To all the Fighters out there:
This is addressed to those of you who in one way or another live for the fight. In other words, who earn your pay by engaging in skirmishes of one type or another, whether it be as a soldier or a professional debater, as a boxer or an attorney.
What is the code by which you operate? Do you fight out of a personal desire to or out of a sense of justice, or both? And what would happen if tomorrow you awoke to a world of perfect harmony, where there was no longer any conflict? That will probably never happen, but if it did then what would be your move?

I debate for the love of the competition. It isn't the winning that I enjoy. It is the struggle getting there. I have only physically gotten into a fight to defend another. I refuse to defend myself, but I have no problem fighting to defend someone else in trouble.
If I woke up tomorrow and the world was in perfect harmony, I would then pince myself so I could actually wake up. It is hard to imagine what I would do because I know that this earth will never be like that as long as there is life on it. Where there is life there is struggle.
If I had to exist in the perfect harmonious world, I know it sounds bad, but I would have to start an argument. I could not live without a little debate, playful raillery, and witty banter.

What about "former fighters?" :)
As most of you know, I was a professional soldier for a number of years, rising to the rank of Captain in the US Army. Why did I choose that as my profession? The answer is rather complex. Part of it was a sense of duty to my Country ( call it Patriotism, if you must ), part of it was a desire to do something I thought was worthwhile, part of it was to get the jump on the draft ( which almost caught me after I dropped out of law school and before I could enlist ), part of it was that I was somewhat adrift after giving up my goal of being in politics ( thinking that law school was simply an entre into politics ) and didn't have anything better to do at the time. :)
What would I do if ( physcial ) conflict became a thing of the past? Probably what I do right now: serve as a mediator, arbitrator and life coach. :)

Former fighters have their forum funerals, and then eternally shut up. Not the case with you, though. ;)

Arguements, if done properly, are a great way to kill some time. If you don't have something useful to do, that is.
Physical fighting is a whole different thingy... I have done that mostly in school, after that only when drunk... It aint really that cool.
Anyways, in a world of perfect harmony I would propably do pretty well. I would go around killing, raping, destroying and pillaging like a hurricane but no one would do a thing as theere would be harmony! ^^
What a great plan, what a great world! Eventually I would kill myself though, due the boredom.

True. As a matter of fact, I've made arrangements for someone to keep posting for me after my ultimate demise. I've got literally thousands of accumulated posts on every concievable topic already stored on my PC. Should be worth at least ten additional years of posting beyond my ( military ) funeral. You'll never be rid of me ... never, I say! Mwahahahahahaha! :D
I really did LMFAO at the thought that even a single "fighter" exists on this board.
This board is full of GEEKS! And not just geeks, but superdorks who enjoy typing away about politics and current events online.
How many "fighters" do you know who fit that mold?
Oh, what a fierce bunch we be! :p
