Today is day of the dead. I was going to write a calavera for the forum but haven't had the time. I may still do it later.

Who else is doing something?

A calavera is a short poem of sorts mocking the epitaphs of friends.

It's a George A. Romero film about dead people coming to life and eating the brains of the living. They celebrate this film throughout latin America.

Ha ha ha. The film has nothing to do with it, save for something you don't want to be playing while you're trying to eat supper. I hope that when I grow up, heron, I'm as smart (ass) as you.

:)

Actually, although most native cultures observe their dead in some way, in Mexico the tradition continued deeply rooted and is part of the mainstream culture, which didn't happen in the rest of the countries.

Day of the Dead is a commemoration of the ancestors and loved ones who have died. You observe the day by remembering and also by making fun of Death itself in several ways. It reminds us that we are all going to die, but that right now we are alive.

Yeah, but my wise-ass explanation is better. It leaves people more confused.

I'm pretty sure you messed up the names, there.

All Souls' Day?

I'm making special prayers for those still in purgatory, praying for those still with me here on earth, and asking those in heaven to pray for us all. :)

And it wouldn't be a bad thing to do for Day of the dead... eating brains... errm... no, watching the movie.

Yup. The prehispanic rites (which varied from culture to culture, in the case of the Aztecs the observance lasted 20 days) were moved to All Souls Day after the arrival of Catholicism, and now the day is a mixture of native and Catholic rites.

Except zombies in Romero movies dont eat exclusively brains.
Any flesh of the living will do.

Your probably confusing it with "Return of the Living Dead.", wich was not a Romero production, wherein the zombies could talk, and hungered for brains.
The movie sucked balls.

I loved how I had no idea what "Day of the Dead" was in English, aside from a movie, but when I saw "Dia de los Muertos" I was like, "Oh, why the hell didn't you say that?"

Yeah, its a good holiday. And I like smart ass comments, Drunk Commies, they're more fun.
