It's been said that "home is where the heart is," but I've had so many homes over the years that my heart seems to be wherever most of my children are. This is one of those issues that makes me cloud up.

What/where is home for you? What does the word "home" mean to you? A place to sleep? A group of people about whom you care?

My cosy little studio apartment overlooking "my" little square, one of numerous found in the town that I live in. That's home to me.

I can see why! Nice digs, Fass. If it weren't for all my children living so close to where I live right now, I would envy you. Very quaint and warm looking. :)

What/where is home for you? Home for me is Poland, no matter where my family is I'll always miss being back home in Lodz. :(

What does the word "home" mean to you? Home to me is wherever you feel the most at peace, even if that means being far away from your family. When you feel comfortable, and "at home" thats where home should be :).

I suppose it's because I've moved around so very much in my life that I tend to equate "home" with family. It also helps that I have such a very large family. :)

Heh. When getting the place, I had to act all "hmm, I'm not really sure I want it" because I didn't want to come across as too eager, but inside I was just screaming "OMG, I'll die if I don't get it! And when I get it, I'll make all my friends die that they didn't get it!" ;)

It's a combination for me--most important is family, especially my girlfriend and my daughter. I've lived in a lot of places, and Louisiana will always feel like home, I suspect, although I don't see myself living there again--it certainly felt like home when I was watching it die after Katrina. San Francisco could have felt like home if I'd decided to make it home, and I imagine south Florida will feel like home eventually--it certainly has grown on me in the short time I've been here. The only places I've lived that didn't feel like they could ever be home to me, however, were Texas (where I was born, oddly enough) and Arkansas. One thing is for certain--I'll never live far from the water again.

Interesting how "home" means different things to each of us. I suppose I could live in frakkin' Kansas and still feel "at home" as long as my children were close by. I probably wouldn't like it much, but since "home" to me means family, I could probably live with it. Heh!

I've moved from: Lodz,Poland-Vienna,Austria-back to Lodz-NYC-Seattle-Kansas City, Missouri.

Lots of moving, but Poland is just where I grew up and its where my childhood friends are. I think I might just be homesick.....heh.

I know someone that is from Lodz, Poland as well :) She's now living in the Netherlands though.

My home is either the office of my student union or a certain pub at my parents' town. Those places is where I enjoy life and friends the most :D 3rd would be my own room :)

There are places that I just couldn't feel comfortable physically or culturally, which is why they'd never be home--Arkansas is one of those places. The winters were too cold, the food wasn't spicy enough, the people (at large) were too closed off from the world as a whole--I couldn't live like that and be comfortable. I need warm weather, spicy food, and as many cultures as you can throw at me. That's why I loved New Orleans and San Francisco (although the weather was a bit of an issue), and why I'm growing to love Fort Lauderdale.

I've lived in two houses in my life in neighbouring suburbs, so this area has always been home.

Wherever did I wander
Wherever did I roam
I heard a voice a-whisp'ring
"Child - you are far from home"

I wrote that long ago before I learnt that poems with lines ending with an unstressed syllable sound silly.

Ah, the Embrace Of Tides. When I was at university, I couldn't stand the fact that the Cam wasn't tidal - losing the rhythm of the tides was like the moon staying in the same phase every night, or the sun not rising and setting; I found it very disorientating.

I have been uprooted so much in my life, I don't even have a physical place I call home. I couldn't even understand the concept until I got married. I never felt safe anywhere. I can say now though that home is wherever my husband is, if I am with him then I am safe, and loved, and that is a good feeling. Since we have been married we have had to move about every year, but I still feel at home because he is with me. I hope to settle down soon though, so that my kids can have both a physical home and an emotional one.
